Your opinions on Wrong Men & Notorious Women Criterion Boxset?

Good Afternoon everyone,

I would like to hear everyone's opinion on this boxset.

I was recently advised that this boxset was put together to get rid of some slow moving movies??? I was also told that, people knew ahead of time that this box set would go OOP because it was not selling well. Is this statement accurate or does this person have a hidden agenda?

I have the boxset but I have not had the time to view it yet. I welcome all comments.

The DVDs were sold individually prior to bing sold as a set, much as the Kurosawa titles in the Samurai Classics box set were. I believe the titles being sold together had less to do with how well they were selling individiually than it did on strategy to sell a higher price point item rather than a few cherry picked titles.

As for the end of set, that was due solely to the end of Criterion's licensing arrangment with MGM, not poor sales.

What films are in the boxed set? Not sure if I've seen it.

My major thought on this set is that it should have come out a year earlier... then I would have saved around $35 from what I paid for the five films individually.

Sell it right now, Hitchcock is so overated in my humble opinion , and I used to love his films 25 years ago. You'll watch them once and never again..

I notice you're selling it on Ebay for $200US, sorry you won't even get $100 US for it.

Cheers

is this boxset really hard to find? because there's been a copy at the Best Buy near my place for a while now. I think for 119 bucks.

It's OOP, but still generally available with a bit of effort. There was a lot of advanced notice that this set would be going OOP so there's a lot of copies out there.

Not bragging or anything but I sold mine that I paid 84 bucks for for 140 shipped on ebay to a guy in Germany. I got lucky I suppose.

I think MGM is working on a new 'Notorious', 'Spellbound', and 'Rebecca', but not the other two. I might be wrong on which, but I'm pretty sure they're only doing three (along with a few which haven't had good releases yet).

I think you are correct. These are the three which Criterion lost the rights to. As far as I know, the 39 Steps and the Lady Vanishes are still in print on the Criterion label.

Hi everyone,

I have to admit that the $200 price was a bit over zealous. This price was set after seeing what other people were asking for on the Amazon.ca site.

Up to $494.99 CDN for a new & sealed set from a seller in Ontario and $670.20 CDN for a used set from a seller in Los Angeles.

I was asking $1,000,000 for mine so maybe you are still low balling. The best way to get a price is look at completed items on ebay.
