Star Trek TOS menu shots (R2) and trailer

DVD answers has menu shots up, probably what you'll see in R1 also:

Numanoid 08-06-04 11:23 AM

Gack!

icruise 08-06-04 11:44 AM

Well, they're a lot better than the original DVD's menus, I'd say.

Cartload 08-06-04 12:44 PM

I like them.

Masamune 08-06-04 12:51 PM

It will fit the show once they get all the sound effects from the ship rolling.

Low tech menus for a generally low tech show. =)

Adrenaline 08-06-04 12:52 PM

As long as I can skip the opening animations I'll be happy.

John-In-VA 08-06-04 06:09 PM

As Nicole Ritchie would say, "that's hot".

Fok 08-06-04 06:13 PM

sweeet. This will be the first (and probably the only) ST sets I'll buy.

stinkeye 08-09-04 12:41 PM

Yes Paramount - nothing will sale more copies than insulting the fan base. Talk about cringe-worthy.

Adrenaline 08-09-04 04:23 PM

Wow what a crappy way to ruin Trek, Paramount good job.

El-Kabong 08-09-04 04:31 PM

Insulting? What trailer were YOU guys watching? That was pretty damn cool.

I don't know. I wasn't insulted. I actually found it kind of amusing, and an affectionate throw-back to the days when the show was still "new."

Most amusing pairing of lines from different episodes:

Uhura: "Why don't you tell me I'm an attractive young lady?"

McCoy: "Are you insane?!?"

El-Kabong 08-09-04 04:49 PM

'Sides - it's not like they made the show cheesy by editing it like that. Face it, as cool as old school trek is, there's a healthy dose of cheese to go with it.

That's part of the charm. Mini-skirts, lines like "EYEEEEEE'm Cap-TAIN KirrrrK!" and really bad special effects - hoaky but we love it.

(Fact - that's one of the big things that newer trek badly needs. Lets get a captain who talks with his fists and his diplomatic relations consist mostly of his love making. This talk the enemies to death crap in next gen and beyond is BOOOOR-ing.)

I agree, the intentional and unintentional humor in this show is a big part of it's charm, the trailer is just cashing in on that. The other shows always took themselves a little too seriously IMO. There are other reasons why this show is still entertaining to me today, but I think anyone insulted by the trailer has their Klingon headdress glued on a little too tight.

I've been a huge fan of TOS since I caught reruns as a kid and I thought that was great! :) Not the usual boring ad I'd expect. It captured the fun, adventurous, vibrant spirit of the show.

Chew 08-10-04 06:52 AM

If those turn out to be the menus and we get classic bridge sounds, then :up:

Agreed...that was a very cool trailer!

Cemetery Man 08-11-04 07:38 PM

Awesome.

[total TOS geek] As poor as I am, I'm all over this like the dark pantyhose on Yeoman Rand's legs. [/total TOS geek]

sracer 08-12-04 10:03 AM

Great teaser! Great menus! Great show! I can't wait for the set! For YEARS, I've held off buying it on VHS... and on DVD. But now it looks like it is the perfect time to do it.

Iron_Giant 08-18-04 10:25 AM

The video AD for ST TOS grew on me the 2nd and 3rd time I watched it. Sent it to my other ST friends, can't wait to see what their reaction is.

Shazam 08-18-04 10:32 AM

That was simply awesome.

Cant't wait for S1!!!!!!!

Captain Pike 08-18-04 12:11 PM

I own the full set of two episode discs. I'm not thrilled about re-buying the series but I'm doing it anyway. I think the menus look cool actually. Very in keeping with the show.

I'd say that I'm "fan base" and I really dug the trailer.

Are you selling the old disks? I sold mine and made enough to finance the new sets plus about $100. Not too shabby.

As for the trailer, I was a bit taken aback at first, but I was totally into it by the end. Pretty cool.

Mike Long 08-18-04 02:08 PM

I'm not sure if fans are going to be happy with the R1 packaging of TOS. The plastic "communicator" case is cool, but once you open that, you're left with a flimsy plastic stack of DVD holders and a slim booklet.

Bleddyn Williams 08-18-04 02:43 PM

Is that any different from the R2s, though?

I've thought about doing that. Where did you sell them?

buckee1 08-18-04 04:05 PM

I don't know about anybody else but, the trailer for TOS is pretty cool me thinks! Can't wait til these street.

I'll reserve judgement till I have it, but I don't have any idea how I'm going to store this thing

The one nice thing about the set is that the box is essentially the same size as any boxed set, so you shouldn't have any problem getting it on your shelf.

Ebay. Of course, that was a little while ago, so more people may know about the new sets, and more people may be selling, so prices could have changed. I haven't checked.

Chew 08-19-04 06:35 AM

Yup, as soon as I heard about these sets I put up the 40 original discs on Half.com and made about $10-$12 each. There could still be plenty of people that don't know about the new boxsets (until they actually get released) if you still want to try to sell the original releases.

ksgemini 08-19-04 07:39 AM

Does anyone know if the video on these sets is any different from the mastering on the single disc volumes? I am probably the only person on these boards that generally is not interested in so called "special features"(with some exceptions such as Cold Mountain) I hesitate to buy again.

Chew 08-19-04 07:59 AM

IIRC, they were remastered on the original releases. I highly doubt they would re-remaster them.
