Hi Everybody,
I saw a movie a long time ago that I can't for the life of me remember the title of, but I cannot forget either. It was a black and white film whereby a group of survivors from a ship that had sunk were in a lifeboat and were many miles from land. All I remember (providing my memory is correct) was that they had to throw a dog overboard in order to help ensure everyone survived. They may also have had to get "select" which of the survivors had to leave the lifeboat as well in order for the rest to survive. Any ideas as to what this movie title is? Maybe my recollection is wrong, but after I saw that movie over 15 years ago, I have never forgotten it. Your help is most appreciated!

In the Atlantic during WWII, a ship and a German U-boat are involved in a battle and both are sunk. The survivors from the ship gather in one of the boats. They are from a variety of backgrounds: an international journalist, a rich businessman, the radio operator, a nurse, a steward, a sailor and an engineer with communist tendencies. Trouble starts when they pull a man out of the water who turns out to be from the U-boat.
