Beside Disney Toy Story box set, Fantasia Anthology and Tarzen Collector's Edition seem to be going up in value at amazon. I recommend picking these titles as ASAP as they are both excellent sets.

Wow I had no idea Blues Brothers was worth that much. I bought mine about year ago for $10 at Walmart :P
|
Tell me about it - I got it from CH on sale for $7.50, now I don't want to open it because it will drop in value. To think, I saw it in pawn shops on more than one occasion and passed it up because I aleady own it - now I need to find a used copy I can watch.

Hmmm - I found a copy of "Plunkett & Macleane" for $12.99 at the same cd warehouse I bought Karate Kid and Armageddon CC. of course, it was NEXT on my list to research when I quit last night - they are holding it for me but I am not sure it is in demand enough to bother with. Amazon marketplace lists $30 used, $35 new but there has been a new copy on eBay which did not get bid at $30 with low shipping, so I might pass on this one. There aren't many auctions (mostly cheap R2 discs). so it is hard to gauge.
Anyone interested? Excellent condition, I could ship it to you for about $17 after tax, and you could throw in a little extra beer money or a low-value DVD for my trouble (since the DVD treasure hunt seems to be fizzling). |
What we need are the code numbers. There are so many different studio copies of movies let alone different versions from the same studios. When you say Dracula Prince of Darkness/The Satanic Rites of Dracula is this the Diamond or Anchor Bay or someother studio release?
|

MST3K = Mystery Science Theatre 3000

For the record, all the versions of Dracula POD I see at Amazon are Anchor Bay - the difference was in the all-region vs region 1 (as I pointed out). |
I found a good wholesale price reference - dvds123.com - they seem to have pretty high prices on older collectibles, in the case of MST 3k they are paying $114, which beats the recent prices on ebay.
Where I feel the DVD123 prices are pertinent, I will include them on my list. I was offering my Karate Kid at $28 shipped on the exchange forum, but I will sell to them for $31.60 instead. |

They have 1900 feedback on ebay abd 99.6% positive, so I would guess they are good to deal with.
You get an automated quote from the site, they email you a printable label, then they send you a check after they receive the items and verify that they are legit and in good shape. |

Okay - I have updated the list, looking for more suggestions - decided to leave off .hack//sign series because there are just too many of them, all the ones at amazon are Japanese imports, etc.

"Last Year at Marienbad" from Fox Lorber. Non-anamorphic, but superior to their usual fare as it was directly ported from the Criterion laserdisc.

Re: Needed : Sticky thread listing "ordinary" DVDs which are OOP and valuable
Originally posted by NCYankee Army of Darkness LE (Anchor Bay) $69 / $90 (Dvds123 - $37) Take the Money and Run (Anchor Bay) $22 / $27 (dvs123 - $17) |
The new Take the Money is fullscreen only, the old one had both full and wide, the the WS is only 1.66:1 (according to Amazon). Also, the old is in Stereo while the new is in mono. That might be why, I am not sure.
The LE of Army of Darkness only had a run of 30,000 copies. |
Starting to get away from the original purpose of the thread with all these obscure foreign titles. I am going to leave off The 47 Ronin since I don't see any current or recently completed eBay auctions for it.
I have to draw the line somewhere or I'll end up with 1000 dvds listed, 900 of which 99% of people have never heard of. |
I was refering to the Anchor Bay limited edition double features version originally. I was just pointing out that I had never seen it in the stores, and the only time I had seen it on Amazon was for $60(used). I believe this is going out of print or is already(as are most of the Hammer double features). The stand alone versions seem to be OOP as well, but Satanic Rites can be had for $3 on Amazon(again used)
|
Many months ago I sold my OOP copy of the HBO video release of THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY (1947, Danny Kaye) for over $90. I figured it would be rereleased at some point, hopefully in an improved transfer. Nothing yet though.
Looks like somebody is asking $130 for it (new) at Amazon Marketplace now. There's also a listing for only $22, but it says "import." |
If someone could find a list of those early Samuel Goldwyn/HBO Home Video releases, they're all OOP and valuable. We've already got a few on the list, and I know of another one - Wuthering Heights (with Olivier/Oberon).
|
Not sure if anyone else noticed, but Platinum Disc Co. has released Prom Night...saw it at Circuit City the other day...not sure of the quality or anything, but it's $6.99 there...I paid $27 a while back for the Anchor Bay disc from SecondSpin.com...it's really not a good movie, and I'd probably be happy with the Platinum Disc...

Here are a couple that are on my wishlist that are OOP:
Maniac Cop (Elite Version) Bride of Re-Animator (Pioneer Version) Both of these movies are available in other forms, but the ones listed above would be considered the ones to get if you can. |
Parents, with Randy Quaid has been OOP for a while now. Disney's Mulan is hard to get as well.
|

FYI, I just read in another thread, regarding 'Jingle All The Way', that it was OOP for a while because the studio got sued (successfully) as having stolen the idea, but it's coming back into print before the end of the year. So, now's the time to sell... Oh, Skyler, there's a special edition of 'Mulan' coming soon. |
How about the OOP Special Edition of Short Circuit? WWF WrestleMania 2000 also sells for a good bit.
|
Bump.
Keep 'em coming. |
Here's another one:
"Tank" starring James Garner, C. Thomas Howell and James Cromwell. It's going for $40 used on Amazon and a completed auction sale on ebay for it was $46 (it's not on dvds123.com). |
dvds123 does show Tank, but they aren't very interested - only $5.40.
I am guessing that they have high prices in their databases for collectible discs that their customers are looking for (maybe they keep a wishlist for their regulars) because there are some OOP DVDs going for good money on eBay and Amazon which are valued very low at dvds123, while there are some such as MST 3K or Karate Kid where their wholesale price is comparable or higher than the eBay prices. |
aren't the movies part of the Limited Issue DVD line that Disney put out worth anything. I know the most one will get for each is maybe 20+ but they are still pretty sought after.
Jungle Book 101 Dalmations Lady and the Tramp Little Mermaid and so on. |
They are probably worth something, but as stated at the beginning of the thread and several times since then I am avoiding obvious collectibles such as Disney and collectible tins. There are just too many of them to keep track of.

Since you have Women on the Verge.....
I think Kika is OOP, R1. If it isn't, someone sold a copy on ebay for about $53. |
Kika is a little too obscure - none currently on eBay, 1 on Amazon for $158. Like I said, I gotta draw the line somewhere (There are 16 "Women on the Verge" at amazon).
|
What about the US release of Romper Stompre (2-Disc)? At times I see it up to like $50, at other times it's just like $10 tho.
|
The 2-disc special edition is rare, but not the 1-disc. And to think - I could have picked that up at Blockbuster used for $10 a year or so ago.
|

According to the list at hometheaterinfo linked on the first page, both Ep 1 + 2 went OOP in Nov 2003, but for some reason Ep 1 is worth some money while ep 2 is going for peanuts ($5-6 used at amazon) - also, ep 2 is still available from Amazon new for $27.
The prices showing at Amazon now for ep 1 are now lower than when I first checked, so I am adjusting (Down to $17 / $27 from $30 / $33 when I checked it the first time - more in line with Ebay prices I saw at that time). |
Bump
Anyone still looking at this stuff? I added "Half Baked", "Brazil (1-disc), and "Donnie Brasco" (Jewel case, not SE). |
