"Here is a start to he list, with the lowest used/sealed prices at amazon marketplace (<b>just as a reference - eBay is usually a little lower at auction, though buy-it-now price is often comparable</b>):

I thought that is what I did - I would hope anyone seriously considering buying these at high prices would do their own research first, as prices do fluctuate and I certainly don't have time to continually update the prices.

In any event, all I am trying to do is list dvds which are valuable, not provide a definitive price list.

AKIRA : the tin - that sold out before it hit the shops. worth some cash...?

NCYankee 07-30-04 12:20 PM

Akira on ebay (completed items) right now has a price range from $14 for a used copy to $26 new with a framed cell to $63 without a cell - so it is worth some cash, but the prices seem to vary widely.

You're totally right, I didn't see it yesterday and didn't check for it today. I do apologize, that disclaimer is right-on.

Well, yes, but I think we're getting a bit away from the initial purpose of this list; stuff like limited edition tins, OOP Criterions, the recalled 'Little Shop', even 'Rabid Dogs', these are valuable and rare, sure, but they're not especially likely to turn up in second-hand stores. I had thought (and I might be wrong) this list was more for things which could reasonably turn up (possibly even new) at a store. [I also wouldn't expect an entire 'Puppet Master' box to turn up, which is why I also didn't bother mentioning 'Eerie, Indiana'.]

Now, like I say, I might be wrong, and we could also modify that initial purpose ... In my mind, though, there should be a seperate list (possibly connected) for limited-run type stuff (with the handful of valuable recalled/cancelled releases listed under that).

I actually expanded upon it today - the one I used in my reply above is what I put there yesterday.

You're right about the tin not being within the purpose of this thread - though I recall someone in another thread finding it for $12.99, he didn't say where, so they are out there.

Wow - thanks for the heads up on that one, I got it from Columbia House in May during their 4 for $30 sale, and haven't even opened it yet. I guess cheap closeout discs are sometimes good buys, eh?

Back when it was still out of print, I found a copy of 'Take the Money and Run' at a store for like $8. I bought it because it was Woody Allen, and one of the few I didn't have on VHS. Months later, when my collection was stolen, I was working out the replacements and was shocked that it was going for $30 or more *and* was highly bootlegged on E-bay. (Now, of course, it's back in print.)

But, yeah, I was surprised at 'Blues Brothers' too. I thought it was still available. If I see it, I'll grab it, 'cause it's selling pretty well.

The crown jewel of my collection :D even before any boxed sets.

NCYankee 07-31-04 02:41 AM

Added Apollo 13 DTS.

tofferman 07-31-04 09:53 AM

I found a copy of Rabid Dogs at a used dvd/cd store for $7 and sold it for $77 on Ebay. I suppose I could have kept it, but it served its purpose. There have been numerous occasions where I have found oop dvd titles and have bought them only to sell them on Ebay so that I may continue to fund my ever-expanding dvd collection. I guess I have made the oop dvd market "work for me".

Dracula Prince of Darkness/The Satanic Rites of Dracula

I have seen this for $60+ on Amazon, but it must be very rare, because I have only seen it available once or twice, and never in a store

NCYankee 08-01-04 03:56 AM

Added the Bond Films.

I am working on the suggested titles a few at a time - don't have a lot of time at a single shot to sort through all of them.

Wow...I bought this for $16 at Best Buy.

dom56 08-01-04 11:07 AM

Beside Disney Toy Story box set, Fantasia Anthology and Tarzen Collector's Edition seem to be going up in value at amazon. I recommend picking these titles as ASAP as they are both excellent sets.

There is a sealed region 1 2-pack right now on ebay for $19.22 buy-it-now. The R1 Prince of Darkness DVD starts at around $20 on amazon marketplace, while the other disc goes about $3.50.

The all-region dvd for Prince of Darkness is $50 sealed at amazon, I don't see an all-region 2-pack listed.

OREOSpeedwagon 08-01-04 02:29 PM

Wow I had no idea Blues Brothers was worth that much. I bought mine about year ago for $10 at Walmart :P

NCYankee 08-01-04 02:34 PM

Tell me about it - I got it from CH on sale for $7.50, now I don't want to open it because it will drop in value. To think, I saw it in pawn shops on more than one occasion and passed it up because I aleady own it - now I need to find a used copy I can watch.

- .hack//SIGN Vol. 1 LE

NCYankee 08-02-04 09:27 PM

Hmmm - I found a copy of "Plunkett & Macleane" for $12.99 at the same cd warehouse I bought Karate Kid and Armageddon CC. of course, it was NEXT on my list to research when I quit last night - they are holding it for me but I am not sure it is in demand enough to bother with. Amazon marketplace lists $30 used, $35 new but there has been a new copy on eBay which did not get bid at $30 with low shipping, so I might pass on this one. There aren't many auctions (mostly cheap R2 discs). so it is hard to gauge.

Anyone interested? Excellent condition, I could ship it to you for about $17 after tax, and you could throw in a little extra beer money or a low-value DVD for my trouble (since the DVD treasure hunt seems to be fizzling).

What we need are the code numbers. There are so many different studio copies of movies let alone different versions from the same studios. When you say Dracula Prince of Darkness/The Satanic Rites of Dracula is this the Diamond or Anchor Bay or someother studio release?

What does MST3K stand for? Sorry if I am just uninformed.

Thanks

MST3K = Mystery Science Theatre 3000

I am just trying to point the way - feel free to do some of your own research, Amazon.com has all that info - its just a click away.

For the record, all the versions of Dracula POD I see at Amazon are Anchor Bay - the difference was in the all-region vs region 1 (as I pointed out).
