I drive an older car (which is 100% paid for and costs me about 30.00 a year in property tax) so the most common response I get when people find out how many DVDs I have is "there's your new car!" And I can see them adding up figures in their head over the next several minutes, probably calculating 15.00 for each DVD or so. Then they say, "Do you know how much money you'd have now if you didn't buy those DVDs?" I always respond, "Well, I don't do drugs or drink or smoke." Most of the people who criticize me about my DVDs have one or all of these vices, so it's fun for me to point out they drink and smoke their money away while I still have something to show for mine.

Most people I know don't ask to borrow my DVDs. I only had one co-worker who wanted to borrow my My So Called Life box set and acted like I pooped on her carpet while killing her puppy when I told her no.

Few people has seen my DVD collection. But the one who do, they just go "wow" and either asking about some movies (I have some well known movie, as well as a more obscure and a few Criterion titles), or ask whether they can borrow them.

I told me wife something along those lines a few months ago. I have no other current vices, but I would occasionally visit strip clubs before we met, and she sometimes asks me if I still do. I told her that there was no way I would waste money in a club that I could otherwise be spending on DVDs.

Durable goods (DVDs) > Non-durable goods (substances, strippers)

Especially when I have gotten many of my DVDs so cheaply at pawn shops or other used outlets that I could sell them at a small profit, and a few have gone OOP and are worth much more than I paid.

well no one but family has really ever seen my collection (over 300). and i only lend to family and my girlfriends family.

as far as horror, i dont have all that many. profiler calls 26 of them horror, but keep in mind that includes titles like Fallen. I'd say that 12 or so are true horror. and about 6-8 of those are stephen king titles.

I just passed the 600 mark. I converted the closet in my bonus room to media storage. I have a file cabinet that holds CD's and the walls are lined with shelves for DVD's. Nobody ever wants to go in there. My wife criticizes heavily but there's always the "I work and you don't" response.

I'm getting a new roommate really soon. We'll see how he reacts to the likes of "The Ilsa Collection" and "Justine". Should be fun. :)

People usually think I'm insane and sometimes criticize why I have so many, but at the same time ask to watch or borrow one
