The Rock has a DTS track.

But I have to wonder why Fat Girl would get a DTS track, as it's mainly dialog driven.

The Complete Monterey Pop Festival and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas also have dts tracks.

There might be others but those two are ones I know of.

"Tanner '88 $29.95 MSRP"

That has to be a typo. Eleven episodes on one disc?

Yes, because we all know that a film can't be good if it isn't popular.

Remember back in the days of laserdisc, when Criterion actually put out movies that people would want to watch?

:sigh:

You mean the 100+ Criterion laserdisc titles that are currently in the Criterion DVD collection today (including the just announced Secret Honor)?

The DVD market is too large for studios to license out titles to Criterion. They aren't going to pass up the profilts.

Eyes Without a Face is definitely worth a look if the genre interests you. I'll be putting that and Tanner on my wish list.

I recently saw Fat Girl and I'm certainly not going to purchase the DVD. Being a movie buff and European, I'm usually very receptive to provocative and daring films, but Breillat's work seems rather simplistic to me, and has little going for it except shock value. Excellent cover, though.

I was gonna disagree with this, but then I realized that Criterion did release both of these Altman films, and those are the two I want, so I guess you're right.

I think the episodes are 30 minutes each. Maybe it's a flipper?

I found it kind of weird that secret honor was the more pricer criterion at 39.95 over tanner '88's 29.95 price tag.
Seems like it should be the other way around.
I suppose the extra $10 on Secret honor is because of the special features.

Either way, great to see these on dvd.

Well, Jon Mulvaney responded to an email of mine, and indicated that Tanner '88 will be two discs.

Home Vision also lists it as a two disc set.

Correct, although, technically, when they say there are 11 episodes, the first episode is an hour long.

I'm guessing they don't think it will sell nearly as well as 'Tanner' [which has more interest because of the election, because of the new series, and just because], so they had to price 'Secret Honor' higher in order to be able to afford to release it.

Just guessing. '3 Women' was $40 also, but '3 Women' had never been released on home video before due to musical rights, so I always figured that had a hand in it.

They all look horrible? How do you deduce that, especially since you say you never even heard about them? Maybe they're the best films ever made, and you're missing out! Quick, to the preorders!

Yes, Fat Girl is a fine film! It says much more than the superficial surface of things. In fact, the simpler any film seems, the more it really has to say. It is actually quite open to interpretation, which has left many with various opinions of it. It’s a rare film that has very vocal detractors and supporters. Plus, it has one of the most shocking scenes in cinematic history. The whole film could be seen as a build-up to that final scene, one might say, and you could actually get away with saying that and still say the film has much depth. It filled me with such a rush of emotions and thoughts. Catherine Breillat is a daring, underrated voice in cinema, and I'm delighted to see her finally preserved on a Criterion disc.

That said, Criterion has in fact released a number of DVDs recently a fickle collector like me has found worth of adding to his collection.
