I'm so sorry guys, but DI is being released in Britain region 2. I missed the small print. Again, I'm sorry I got anyone's hopes up.

I will also concede that a UK release by Universal makes a Criterion edition even less likely. |
Criterion is a pipe dream...It won't happen....I also assume that close to the UK date you will see the R1 release...with a 2 month span.
|
Any update on this? It obviously missed the March 28th date.
|
Amazon.co.uk lists a release date of July 11.

Universal.
Quelle surprise. btw, decent Double Indemnity drinking game: (if there are any decent drinking games) Drink some beer every time Fred MacMurray says the word "baby" Warning: do not do this with shots or you might be visiting the hospital. Besides you won't have time to refill the shot glasses. |
I could really use a rerelease soon. I just tried watching my Image release of this and it freezes halfway through the movie every time, freakin crap.

I haven't seen the previous version of Double Indemnity, but I've read that it was unspectacular at best in regards to the print quality.
As long as the print quality is good I'll be happy just to be able to watch DI for the first time. Of course, if Universal decides to throw some extras on the DVD I certainly won't argue with them.... As long as it doesn't delay the release by several months. |
Has there been any restoration work done on Double Indemnity? I'm just wondering because it has popped up recently at a few theaters in the area. I was hoping that this would mean the possibility of a restoration and a new DVD release.

Looks like Universal is finally letting this one out of the vault.

Thanks Karl, looks like it might finally be time to let go of my copy of the original release.
|
Knowing how long it has been out of print (I sold my Image dvd years ago when it was rumoured to be released back then), I will believe it when I see it. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if Universal makes it a flipper, if they even have any extras to provide. That would be the ultimate injustice considering this is regarded by many as one of the greatest film noir ever made. Universal, please don't fuck this up!
|
Finally!!!!!!!!
|
Wow, it's about friggin time Universal. As long as they don't f this up, I will be able to retire the old VHS tape. It's hard to get excited about this though, since it's still months away and we all know what universal is (in)capable of.

Yeah, color me cynical... I'll believe it when I see it. :fc:

well on the classic attractions database on the digital bits, it still says universal is releasing double idemnity this year.
|
I'd bet that they are releasing it this year, as I just this week ponied up for a copy of the old one. *sigh*
