I heard of this rumor a long time ago and read in a magazine (forgot wut mag.) that the director was looking foward to release his version of it (the "R" version)...............anybody else know anything else?

Good question, I too thought it was going to be coming out this past April/May.

Held off until the release of the Elektra movie.

Jeezuz i could give a crap about Elektra, I thought Daredevil wuz pretty solid comic flick-----------fo'sho it blasts Spiderman 1 outta the water...................spiderman was strictly for kids...

i've been holding out on getting the current so i could get the director's cut. now it's postponed until next year if at all. i hope this doesn't happen to the rumored hellboy dc.

There is a Hellboy Director's Cut scheduled??? So, I shouldn't pick up the 2-disc special edition of Hellboy in July?

the rumor said that Hell Boy will got 3 or 4 disc treatment by the end of this year (holiday season)

A couple things, the R-Rated Director's Cut of DareDevil was pushed back to co-incide with the Elektra movie which is scheduled to hit theaters in Feb. 2005.

The Director's Cut of Hellboy will be released sometime around the Holiday Season in a 3-4 disc (most likely 3) Deluxe Edition. However, the 2-disc Collector's Edition coming out in July looks to be pretty packed and packaged well. So I'm probably gonna double-dip on this one.

And Geez, 3-4 discs for Helboy? wow never heard of that, Guillermo del Toro might as well make that extra bloody cut of Blade II----- 6 disc set hehhehehhe............why can't they do any of these in a seamless braching style the first time around...........(theatrical and D-Cut)...........................if i had to guess its all about marketing , getting that money honey.....with those other upcoming movies related to the dvd release.

Alot of these re-releases, and Daredevil is a perfect example, often seemed to get delayed from initial projections. So I wouldn't exactly be expecting a 2nd Hellboy release this year.

picked up the daredevil release last night at circuit city for $15. even comes with a bonus exclusive 3" mini-cd. i heard the movie wasn't that great, but i'll see for myself this weekend.

Cool. I'll definately pick that up. The theatrical cut is too short, weighing in at only 100 minutes or so. New cut is supposed to add about 35 minutes if I recall correctly.

I think you just might be crazy with that statement. I think Daredevil sucked and Spider-Man rocked.

I'll watch the directors cut of Daredevil once it comes out though. I'd like to see what was intended.

I was going to get the R rated one back then but now that they have held off, I dont care much for it or DD anymore.

Daredevil was a decent flick, not a great film by any means. I had fun with it and enjoyed it. Then again, I like most Affleck films (Gigli excluded). ;)

It's be nice to see if the additional 35 minutes improve the film or hurt it.

Spiderman was at least 100 times better than Daredevil. Period.

So, is the director's cut only 1 disk?

Also, is everything from the theatrical version in the DC, or was some things eliminated? Reading the two DVD Talk reviews gives you two different ideas on what to expect.

Elektra is cut out a bit. This is clearly intended as a supplemental release, those wanting the full DD experience should hold on to the original release. Although I do wish they had rereleased it with branching ala the quad.

Which parts and does it ruin anything for those of us who already know the first version?

I too was waiting for the uncut version. Now i just don't care.

Some movies grow on you with time....others not so much.

Spiderman 2, yes. The first Spiderman? No way.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing this.

Daredevil is a very cool action flick. I love the scene in which he presence the rain. Thats a nice touching scene. I will get the director's cut cause it would be worth it.

Now, do I want to upgrade?

For me, i'm not 'upgrading' per se. With all the extras on the original release and the director's cut apparently being quite a bit different as far as tone and character development go, i'm buying it with the intention of it being more of a complement to the original.

I just don't know if the movie is good enough to have two versions of.

Yeah, but you won't know until you manage to see the Director's Cut :) The disc seems to be coming out at a fairly low price with an MSRP of 19.99, which means a 14.99 regular price and a possibility of a 12.99 or so sale on release day. The cheap price and the reviews that have compared it favorably to the theatrical cut (which i enjoyed) make it an easy buy for me.

The directors cut is a new movie! I can't wait!

I love the description on the back: "Matt Murdock agrees to defend a not-so-innocent man framed for murder."

So is he not-so-innocent, or was he framed?

I enjoyed the DC more than the Theatrical cut.

Really looking to hear more reaction to the new scenes before I buy the DC. How much difference did they make?

EW magazine actually said it made the movie worse because the new scenes don't flow well with the rest. Sounds like it might be like so many other movies would turn out of they added the bonus feature deleted scenes back in the movie. If the subplots are not completely fleshed out it's best to leave them in the bonus feature menu IMO.

Heres a list of the changes, not sure if I'll remember them all:

The parts with Matt and his father are expanded upon greatly, its a good 30min. before we first see DD kickin some ass at the club. Theres some more stuff with Matt kickin those kids ass. Its edited much better. The scene with Matt and his father in the hospital is extended and its quite emotional, I actually got a bit teary, it hits home a bit for me, cept for the whole being blind thing, but thats a whole nother post. Also theres a part after this scene that DD fans will eat up. In the comics it was always sort of suggested that Matt's mom was a nun. Well theres this beautiful shot that looks like Miller himself drew it where Matt's mom stands over him and her cross on her necklace is hanging down and Matt touches it. Its really beautiful and touching.

Much of the beginning with his father is completely re-edited, a lot of new stuff is added dealing with his father working for Fallon and how Matt finds out and such. Theres a lot more stuff at the boxing arena, including a beautiful shot of Matt standing in his father shadow.

When Matt and Foggy come out of the courthouse, they have a little more talk about their clients and such.

The bar scene is a lot longer and more violent. Hell you even get to see some titties, fake as they may be. The rapist, Quesada, has talk to the bartender, shes pissed that he's back there because thats the bar that he raped the girl at.

Theres some additions to him killing Quesada. You seem him take out his billy club and unhook it so the wires showing. Theres a few more lines before he knocks Quesada in front of the train.

Theres some additions to the coffee shop. Matt and Foggy have some great lines at one and other, a whole new discussion thats about a minute long. The playground scene is still there, but the scene afterwards where they're walking is out. Instead Elektra gets pick up by her bodyguards and tells matt she'll find him.

First time we see Kingpin is the same, but theres an addition where Kingpin, for no real reason kills two of his bodyguards viciously. Its really cool, I was like "Damn!" He really comes off as just a bad motherfucker.

Now where's the whole Lisa Tazzio/Coolio subplot comes in and its really well done. Like I said instead of the movie being a revenge movie like the Theatrical was, now its a crime thriller about Matt trying to keep Hell's Kitchen clean and taking on the source of the crime because he always sticks up for the little fella. This subplot completely changes the meaning and effect of the movie. Ben Urich's (Joey Pants) character comes into play heavily and thankfully Joey Pants gets a lot more screentime here. He's awesome.

Theres also some more stuff with Bullseye, some additions here and there. Theres a scene of him in the airport thats pretty cool. And the line "I want a bloody costume" is now back to what it was originally "I want a fucking costume!"

The fight between Elektra and DD on the rooftop is extended. And the fight between Bullseye and Elektra is a lot more violent. After he stabs her and is holding her up he bites her lip and snarls. whoa!

The fight with Kingpin is extended quite a bit. Kingpin really hands DD his ass on a silver platter before throwing him against the wall.

The ending is extended, we see Kingpin sitting in jail. Staring at the wall, sorta like you always imagined what Michael Myers would be like when he was in the institution for 15 years. The part after the credits in the Theatrical with Bullseye in the hospital is now a part of the movie after we see Kingpin in jail.

Theres a little bit more with Urich and Matt at the end.

Theres a lot more stuff, but these are the basic big additions. Now, the subtractions.

Instead of the confessionals, we get a really great scene with Matt and the father about half way through the movie about how the church is his solitude.

The love scene is gone. Gone gone gone! Instead when Matt hears the voice of the guy gettin beat up, he leaves and goes to beat him up.

Theres some rearranging with the scenes at the law office before the party.

Like I said, this is a whole new movie. Some DC's just add stuff, but this makes it a whole new movie. And its incredible. I imagine many who didn't care for the Theatrical will really dig this version.

Theres also a really nice 15min featurette with Mark Steven Johnson about the changes and how much he loves this version and really how true it is to the comics, and it is, I've been reading DD for years and this is just pure DD.

I haven't watched it yet, so I can't say for certain. But maybe this not-so-innocent man sells crack or beats his wife, but he's not guilty of murder. Makes sense to me.

he was framed

It seems like they could have chosen a better phrase than "Not-so-innocent" then. Calling him "Unsavory" would have worked better than essentially calling him innocent and not innocent in the same sentence.

It wasn't for no reason. The Kingpin's lawyer is telling him that someone has been talking to the press, then the Kingpin tells that little story about emporers ripping out their bodyguards' tongues, then he kills his own bodyguards. It seemed pretty clear he thought it was one or both of the guards who was talking.
