As long as I know it's coming out, I don't mind the wait.

My B-day is in Nov, so I don't have the x-mas factor to make the extra month of wait more bearable.

It would have been wiser to have a November release date. As everyone knows christmas shopping starts on black friday. I'm sure if it's out then it would fly off the shelves. As it is, it will be a last minute gift idea.

One month later is no problem. It'll still be mine.

I have no problem waiting on this. I MAY pick up the normal copy (seeing as I have the other two movies in both the normal release and the EE w/statues.

Why? I only lend out the NON-EE versions..

Christmas 2002 I received the first EE from my mil and last year I received the second, also from her. I wasn't expecting to get ROTK EE until xmas anyway, because I wanted her to complete the tri-fecta. I'm also scheduled to have my home theater complete by late Nov/early Dec so this should work out perfectly. I'm one of the few that doesn't like theaters and always wait for the DVD release. In the case of LOTR, I've always waited for the EE version. I'll be having a great HT breaking in party in late December where we'll re-watch the first two editions and then watch ROTK for the first time. That'll be one great weekend.

Not a problem here, as long as they take the time to do it right. Not like other studio's who rush out releases and then make us double dip.

Yeah, I'm not too bummed by this. I have enough to watch between now and then the way it is already.

Confirmed 12/14 from DVD Answers

New Line has confirmed that the four-disc extended edition of Return of the King will arrive on the 14th December. The set will include around fifty-minutes of additional footage, including the highly anticipated confrontation with Saruman. Stacks of extra material will also be featured, including cast and crew audio commentaries and multiple behind the scenes documentaries and featurettes. The SRP will be around $39.99. Also arriving on the 14th will be a collector's giftset which includes the aforementioned four-disc extended edition, along with a Sideshow/Weta statue of Minas Tirith and a Howard Shore Creating the Lord of the Rings Symphony DVD. The retail price for this will be set at around $79.92.

Lord of the Rings Ad Retraction

Not official date yet:

Video Store Magazine inadvertently ran an advertisement in the Sept. 5-11, 2004 issue reflecting key dates and content information on behalf of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Special Extended DVD Edition.

Please note that this version of the advertisement contained premature announcement details, including an incorrect pre-sell date. This advertisement should be disregarded in its entirety and should not be relied upon for accurate date and content information.

We regret any inconvenience that this may have caused.

Well hopefully this means they will try for a pre-Black Friday release. It's only a 2 1/2 week bump, should be doable, as it seems like it's done already.

A pre-sell date is not the release date. A pre-sell date tells retailers when they can start taking advance orders (I think)

I expect it will be right before Christmas - with the anticipation - they know they'll score on bunches of Christmas presents.
