Chris Benoit vs. Sid Vicious
World Heavyweight Championship Match, WCW Souled Out (16.01.00)
This is interesting because he won the very belt he is wearing now. I think if they had backstage footage where he allegedly threw the WCW belt in the trash on his way out of the arena would have made this a must own.

Alot of people debunked the rumor that he threw the belt in the trash after he left the PPV that night, so no one really thinks its true, and plus, he seems like he would have more class towards a title belt than that. the Regal match (which has been said that that match was the main reason that Regal got his job back in WWE at the time) and the Owen Hart Tribute match make this worth buying alone. on another note, where is my Chris Jericho double DVD set WWE!

Beniot does have class but I haven't heard anyone debunk the belt in the trash story. Facts are he hated his job, his employers, Kevin Sullivan (writer at the time) and the backstage politics. Even the end to the match was suspect because many knew he wanted ou of WCW.

This is a must own for me. He wasnt really in my top three of favorite wrestlers but i always loved the guy and still enjoy seeing him perform. I hope more of these double disc DVDs focused on a certain wrestler keep being released. I still hope for the day i see a DVD all about my man Sting!

Benoit never threw the belt in the trash. He handed it back the next day and was given his full release along with Guererro, Malenko and Saturn. WCW thought by putting the belt on him and promising to push him as the top guy (or close to it) would make him break from the others and stay, it didn't. Track down some Wrestling Observer Newsletters from that time from (2/00) and Dave Meltzer gives the whole rundown.

Tried for the last 45 minutes to find something from that time period. I've found everything from he never entered a WCW arena after the PPV to he showed up at Nitro and was asked or asked to leave.
I'm confident that the trash story was reported by more than one source but it was almost 4 years ago. Maybe Benoit will answer this on the new dvd, but I doubt it.

I'm not sure. Remember what was happening in WCW at that time. The ratings were in the tank (averaging in the 2.2 percent a week). Management was in turmoil. The older vet's had more say in their own storylines as well as the stories of the newbies. There was no direction in WCW at that time and for quite a time to come. Six of it's stars wanted out of their contracts (the "Radicals" and Konnan & Shane Dougles).
For Benoit, it was even more personnal. He was dumped from the Horsemen angle. He wasn't going anywhere in his career. His friend Jerhico was telling them how much better it was in the WWF. And the clincher: Kevin Sullivan was now the head writer/booker for WCW.
He was prolly told on his way out that he would be stripped or drop the belt the next night on Raw. With all that, why not toss the belt in the trash. Your own company doesn't believe in you.
He may be a respectable class act, but at that time, who knows?

Fans who were waiting for the new 2-disk "Hard Knocks - The Chris Benoit Story" DVD will have to wait a week longer.
Sony, who is the distributors of all the WWE DVDs, has sent word to all of their retailers that they are currently 3-5 business days behind schedule printing the Benoit DVD. This means that while some stores might be lucky enough to get it in next Tuesday like it was originally scheduled, most fans will have to wait until the following week to pick up their copy.
