I never understood how Season 2 could take place 5 years BEFORE Season 1, when we clearly see Sledge meets Doro for the first time in the Pilot episode. -ohbfrank-

It doesn't take place 5 years before Season 1, just 5 years before the Season 1 finale. So most of Season 1 takes place 5-6 years before its own finale.
