Comments like this really aren't necessary. In the future, please refrain from this type of "contribution".

I wanted to point out that it seems like this is selling very well - at least for an obscure cult tv show - both the Best Buy near my work and the Tower Records near my house were sold out of it by the end of the day. I guess $25 for an etire season of a great show will do that - cool packaging and booklet, by the way.

I watched the first episode and I just had a ridiculous grin on my face the whole time - this is a great show that holds up really well.

Bring on season 2!

matome 07-28-04 04:47 PM

Just picked this up at Circuit City for $25. Woohoo, can't wait to watch some good memories!

Snowmaker 07-28-04 05:19 PM

Had to exchange mine today because, when I opened it, the flap for Disk 1 was cracked almost in half.

Definately. My local Circuit City only received one copy according to the DVD girl stocking the shelves when I got there at opening, though. So apparantly the stores didn't distribute well or didn't expect the demand for this classic. When will they learn?

AOD 07-28-04 09:35 PM

Exactly how good is this selling? Are there any stats anywhere? I hope they can't keep them on the shelf. I know I contributed and bought a copy. Excellent value for the money by the way. Paid 19.99 with a $5 GC from BB. Bravo to Anchor Bay, Bravo.

Now if they would just bring out Poltergeist: The Legacy I would be happy. I thought for sure Anchor Bay would jump all over a show like this. Hopefully SOON (although I haven't heard any info on it).

Match 07-28-04 10:52 PM

I read somewhere that Anchor Bay didn't include closed captions. Is this true?

LasVegasMichael 07-28-04 11:02 PM

Yes, there are no closed captions or subtitles (on par with many other Tv on DVD sets), but everything else more then makes up for it, obviously. ;)

A great visual as well as dialouge driven anti-sitcom. Fun for the whole family!

toobsock 07-29-04 03:40 AM

I've wanted this ever since I borrowed some old VHS tapes from my friend in college... TV on DVD = teh grate.

Wallet Boy 07-29-04 11:13 AM

Question:
On the back of the set, it says on the bottom in the fine print "Enhanced for 16x9 Televisions". Is that referring to the extras or something? I popped in a few episodes but they were the standard 4x3.

LasVegasMichael 07-29-04 11:25 AM

The episodes were, of course, originally shot in full frame, but on my WS tv and player, I have it set to always display everything in WS, and apparently, the enhancement decreases the "stretching" of the image (at least, I think it does).

I don't think it was referring just to the extras, but I could be wrong.

That's some bullshit. I won't be picking it up now.

tonyc3742 07-29-04 11:40 AM

I really really also appreciate closed captions or subtitles, and since most tv shows in the last ten years or so were closed captioned, it boggles me why they don't leave them on. I have a decent home theatre, but sometimes sound isn't mixed right or I can't crank it enough to get the dialog.

Chapter stops would be nice too, I've always liked being able to skip past the opening, or skip directly to a 'commercial break.'

I don't really remember this show much, other than the tag line, but just this quote from the review gave me a giggle:
Spoiler:
In one show he comes across a person on the side of a building who’s going to jump. Instead of trying to talk the man down, Sledge takes out his gun and starts shooting at the guy, who quickly climbs back through the window.

Hmm...25.99...best buy gift card, RZ cert, and that 10% coupon for this weekend..I might have to pick this one up....*smeg* except that it's sold out at my BB...maybe by this weekend they'll get more.

is ~25 bucks going to be the going price, or is it a release-week price?

I wouldn't hesitate, personally. DDD used to have it at $27.00 but lowered it to $24.89 to beat Circuit City.

I doubt it will go lower then $25 for a while. It was one I was not going to wait for, though, hence the reason I didn't want to order it online, in case it got here late.

If Anchor Bay added any enhancement, you'd see 'their' black bars on each side of the image instead of your television's pillar bars. They do this a lot with their extras, but I've never seen them do this for 'real' content.

It was the one where they were spoofing die hard and hammer and durough (sp im sure) get to the roof and shes like "hammer, a flare gun, signal that helicopter"... of course, hammer grabs the flare gun, fires it and next thing you know the chopped is a ball of flame crashing into the ground. lol!!!

such a great show.

I remember that episode! I was only 14, but I laughed my arse off. If I remember correctly, he gives a look like "simple mistake" after the choper goes down.

Didn't he talk to his gun as well?

pat00139 08-09-04 01:58 AM

I was thinking of picking this up, but the last time I saw an episode I was about 8. Dunno if I'd like it anymore. Trouble is, being where I am, I can't go out and rent the thing. Oh, well, I'll probably wait a bit and see.

By the way, why is Alan Spencer in Quantico? (Or do Anchor Bay have a really strange sense of humour?)

DarthMarino 08-09-04 10:39 AM

I've been flying through this set and the show is better than I remember. Does anyone else have a hard time imagining this with a laugh track? I just don't see how it would fit.

Updated to reflect S2 news. Can't wait!
