"...All the characters were well-defined too."
Are you referring to the original? If not, did we see the same movie? The characters in DAWN OF THE 29TH DAY (as I like to refer to the DotD remake) had about as much personality and depth as any one of the zombies from Romero's original. Despite that, I can't say that I wasn't entertained. I'm glad that an unrated director's cut is coming so soon rather than make horror fans wait extra months after a theatrical DVD release. I never bought the RESIDENT EVIL DVD because they announced a gorier director's cut before it even was released on disc. If the DotD remake ultimately does the same trick, I won't buy it either.

It puzzles me how when people bash this movie for its shallow characters and what not, they compare it to the original and make the original sound like it was a slow moving character study.

Bandit03 04-24-04 05:21 PM

Sweet, looking forward to this. Thought it was a great remake

"Well-defined" in terms of being characters as opposed to simply zombie-fodder. Sure, we didn't get to know hardly anything about their past history, but there was some. However, the majority seemed like real people, memorable characters. I was impressed that, even with a fairly large cast, there was as much character development as there was. (Except for the blonde chick who was just there for the nudity--not a complaint!) :)

EXCELENTE. There's a pickup. This summer's looking bright. Like, REAL bright.

I pissed myself a little bit when I read this thread title.

The sooner that the abomination known as "Dawn of the Dead 2004" hits DVD the better. This way fans of the film will have something that they can enjoy in the privacy of their own home. :)

I can't wait for this steaming pile of equine waste to fade into forgetfulness. (At least until the sequel and the Day remakes surface). :(

Jackskeleton 04-25-04 05:03 PM

The Original Dawn of the Dead is still around. they didn't burn all the copies once the remake hit. So I think it's safe to assume that even with the remake around, the original can still be as good as it ever was.

So did they screen it in your living room 24/7 during the theatrical run? I don't get it.

rexinnih 04-27-04 09:10 AM

Just watched the original over the weekend and can hardly wait for the remake to come out. Missed it in the theater so an extra 25 minutes will be great. Let's hope Universal puts DTS on it and I'll be content.

F For Fake 04-27-04 11:13 AM

The original is one of my all-time favorite flicks, but I really enjoyed this one a lot. What I'm most looking forward to in the DVD is the ability to freezeframe and slo-mo some of the things that went by so quickly when I saw it in the theater. All of that televised-chaos stuff in the beginning looked really cool, but some of the cutting was so quick that it was practically subliminal.

Geofferson 04-27-04 11:26 AM

Excellent news! I can't wait to see the dir. cut of this one!

There's no official word either way, but I think most people are expecting one of both so that places (such as Wal-mart) that supposedly don't sell unrated discs can still make Universal some money.

slop101 04-29-04 04:36 PM

I don't think this cover is for the Unrated version:

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/7193/...r1ratepic2.jpg

Mainly because it doesn't say anything about extra footage - all unrated dvd covers make this claim, this one doesn't, therefore this must be the theatrical dvd cover.

RyoHazuki 04-29-04 08:32 PM

I didn't think there were going to be two versions. They could just use a sticker anyways.

Jackskeleton 04-29-04 09:45 PM

It's universal. Of course they will have to versions. How easy would it have been to release one American Pie that contained the Unrated material and look at how many versions we have of that film. ;)

Tony Dvdfan 04-29-04 10:28 PM

Saw that cover on another website, which states that it is only for the rated version of the film. Cant wait for this release!

ruk 04-30-04 09:03 AM

are both versions being released at the same time i assume
