It's now available to preorder at Amazon for $34.94. Also started a thread in the STL forum.

$35 for 5 classic noir movies? I mean, CLASSIC NOIR Movies! That's a great deal!

Now if only Warners will release more Bogart films like Petrified Forest, All Through the Night, Black Legion ("Those Black Legion guys don't fool!"), etc, - I'd be a VERY happy man.

Did I say how pleased I am to see that these will be in keepcases?

I also totally called the $35 street price!

Brilliant price for 5 classic noir films! I placed my order as well. Wish it'd be released sooner... i can not wait.

Any idea what Volume 2 will hold?

The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcon SEs seem likely for a volume 2. Or atleast, they should be.

Not really since they're already available. I'd rather them issue 5 more that aren't out yet and put out those two you mentioned as deluxe 2-disc versions.

Warner has about 80 decent Noir titles in their library - and probably more not so decent ones - so they can put out many volumes for years to come.

I got my WB Film Noir set this morning, and it's gorgeous. I haven't watched each film in its entirety yet, but I spot checked all the transfers, and none of these films has ever looked better.

The real surprise is GUN CRAZY. This was an independently financed movie that has changed owners over the years, and that usually can mean trouble. I've never seen it look good. Here it looks unbelievably GREAT!

The packaging is terrific too, with arresting original artwork housed in (blessed) sturdy keepcases!

Got mine at a local retailer for $40 including tax. That's $8 a movie. You can't beat that!

Way to go WB....

Great news. I also am disappointed Amazon waited until today to ship this (and Batman: TAS for that matter!).

This set would be a great blind buy. Each movie ranks among the best in the genre.

Just started going through this... what a great release from Warner. At this price too, it's a no-brainer.

Just got my box from dvdsoon and i made an comparision to R2 PAL French disc and R1 was much more better, more details, nice film-grain. R2 PAL disc was quite blurry compared to this new Warner disc. Too bad i can't host the files so you'd have seen the difference.

My set arrived yesterday. You've read the reviews no doubt but I have to say watching The Asphalt Jungle is a genuinely jaw-dropping experience. No, Warners have not removed every flaw, every line, every speck from this great MGM noir. What they have done, is given it a grade 'AA' transfer in every other respect. The detail is amazing, the contrast is perfect with greys right across the scale, white whites, black blacks. Look at the beads of sweat on their faces, the fabric of their suits, the glitter of chrome on those huge '40s cars, the different levels of cloud in a bright Kentucky sky. Wow! I yelped with delight at the John Huston intro - marvellous stuff. Even the best of the Universal noirs pales along side this; it was an almost religious experience.

Oh, and if you're wondering, the film is pretty damned good too! '

I can't recommend this highly enough - if you consider yourself a film enthusiast, you must buy this.

Quick reminder; the Film Noir Collection is still a fab bargain at $36.98 CAD at dvdsoon.

It's still only $35 at Amazon for these five great films. Man, what a terrific set for an even better price.

So far I've watched Murder My Sweet and The Set-Up and both were great in all aspects. The transfers were very, VERY good (considering how old the films are). Murder My Sweet was a great movie, as expected, but the big surprise was just how good The Set-Up is! A GREAT boxing/noir movie! Robert Wise is better known for his large-scale movies, but he handled this low-budget, very small scale movie extremely well - it was one of the best directed Noir movies I've seen so far.

This set may just turn out to be the best "blind buy" I've ever made on DVD! (Of course, I expected that it might be....)

It would have been nice if there were inserts with a chapter menu, though. Otherwise, I'm a happy camper.

Yeah, the no inserts makes it look cheap. Too bad.

Otherwise this set is about perfect, though. A good documentary on film noir of the period would have been cool, although the audio commentaries more than make up for the ommision.

My set came today from Amazon. Three days is not bad to wait. The movies are wonderful. I highly recommend this set.

I've seen Gun Crazy and The Set-Up so far. Both were excellent. Gun Crazy is a lot of fun and the Set-Up is a marvel of film editing. The movie is really short but the pacing in it is perfect. I was very impressed with it. I've listened to bits and peices of the commentary. Wise didn't appear to really contribute too much besides anecdotes but Scorsese is very interesting in the bits I heard. Next on the agenda is Murder My Sweet. This is my favorite blind buy of the year so far.

I thought Out of the Past was overrated (great cast, though) and didn't like Murder, my sweet...but the other 3 were great. Especially loved The Set-Up and Asphalt Jungle!
