Wow, I've seen the movie and I didn't like it a great deal but the new transfer looks incredible.

Slightly off topic, but with this new transfer and an anamorphic Charade on the way, does anyone think this will lead to re-releases of non-anamorphic titles (such as Brazil) and remasters of older prints (such as Seven Samurai)?

From the recent HTF Chat with Criterion's Lee Kline:
Q: Mr Kline. Welcome. I would like to know if Criterion plans on re-releasing Seven Samurai in a 50th Anniversary Edition this year.

A: We would really like to, and have just started thinking about what we can do for a new release. As many of you know, the Japanese mastering is probably the most difficult for us. Film elements have been kept poorly, and many original negatives and Master Postives (fine grains) are not in existence. We're going to be doing some tests on Seven Samurai soon to see if we can make it look better than the previous version very soon.

This is well worth a double-dip, even without a rebate! Excellent news!

If so, an upgrade will be a no-brainer, as the Eureka set is outstanding.

I have the 2-disc Eureka version of M, and it's a pretty great package. It'd be interesting to see how (or if) Criterion tops that. The only small problem with the Eureka version is that while the elements are very well cleaned up for such an old film, the actual transfer is a bit too sharp and jagged - it looks too "digital" and not at all film-like (it's hard to see this from stills, you have to see it in motion). The sound is also a bit too harsh and "tin-can" sounding. I can see Criterion improving on these things.

Will definitely double-dip on the Fritz Lang goodness. Will probably hold off on 'Charade', as I don't have a 16x9 set as of right now, so the anamorphic enhancement isn't a big deal...yet.

I never did pick up the Criterion... now I'll wait.

I just hope the new one's anamorphic.

I did email te people at CC to ask about a rebate, here is the response...

To the best of my knowledge, CHARADE is a unique situation. We will, however, be treating each case individually.

...so probably no rebate. Ill jsut Fleabay mine probably...

Actually, it's more like 12.95 when you order through the following link:

http://www1.cd-wow.com/index_region2...=12449&pp_nr=1

Save that link, it works every time (GBP 1.50 discount).....

Prices are displayed in UK currency, but you can choose to pay in other curency during the checkout process. M is USD 12.92.

Numerous emails to Mr. Mulvaney have revealed that they are shooting for a December release.

The original CC's M is a barebone release. You won't lose anything.

Have you looked at your old disc? There are no features.
