All my other wants have already been mentioned above.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery - OAR is 2.35:1 - DVD is 2:1.

MGM has released a whole bunch of FF-only discs over the past year, including Breakin' and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

And yes, let's bow our heads for a moment for Remo Williams.

another one is Kickboxer. HBO needs to reissue the anamorphic widescreen version they put out in 1999 so i don't have to get raped for $50+ from some auction some place.
no he didn't ... the film was released as 1.85:1 but kubrick FRAMED the shots for 4:3 veiwing. so while the director did intend for the film to be viewed as we now see it, 4:3 is NOT the OAR.

Kubrick wanted the film to fill the entire frame of a display for home video viewing.

Therefore, WB should be releasing 1.78:1 versions of all of those films so that the film fills my entire display. Those black bars on either side of the picture are like, soooo annoying.

I would like to thank you guys for coming up with this list. You mentioned quite a few that I had missed. This thread is long, so I created a PHP script to handle the list. It is called the OAR Watchdog. I can edit the list much faster than I ever could a thread on a message board. The list is also sortable by title, studio, and year of theatrical release. Please help me keep this list up-to-date. Please look over the list, and post any additions or changes. You can send an e-mail, or reply to this thread. If you submit a new title, please be sure to include the studio name and release year in your post.

The purpose of the OAR Watchdog is to list films that were shown theatrically in widescreen, but only given a fullscreen release on DVD. Films that are framed incorrectly are beyond the scope of this list. This list only includes Reigon 1 DVDs.

I have added the following titles from this thread, except the ones mentioned.

Aprartment Zero (Cannot find Studio name)
Death Becomes Her
December
Fatal Instinct
Follow Me Boys
The Front Page
Galaxy of Terror (Cannot find DVD release)
Gleaming the Cube
If You Only Knew
Johhny Be Good
KickBoxer
Liar's Moon (Cannot find DVD release)
Mad City (Widescreen, according to Amazon)
My Dinner with Andre
My Tutor
Night Crossing
Poison (2000 is Widescreen, 1991 is OAR)
Repossesed (Cannot find DVD release)
Snowball Express
Split Second
Storyville
There goes my baby
Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery - OAR is 2.35:1 - DVD is 2:1

"Presented in a "letterbox" widescreen aspect ratio of 2:1 as specified by the director. Enhanced for 16x9 TV's."

Since Austin Powers: IMOM was shot in Super-35, the matting was simply raised a little on the top and bottom.

I don't know if you're including R1 Canada in this list, but Alliance Atlantis has a new widescreen (non-anamorphic) version of Last Night. It has the same cover as the old pan & scan version, but it states widescreen on the back.

Jah-Wren: Sorry for a late (2 years!) reply: BASTARD OUT OF CAROLINA was produced for Turner for television broadcast (then rejected and later run on SHOWTIME) and was released on DVD in its original 1.33:1 ratio.

Creepshow - the Region 1 DVD release contains two versions of the film. The widescreen version is cropped from the pan & scan version. The film was shot in an aspect ratio of 1.66:1.

Eraserhead - shot in fullscreen.

Heavy Traffic - shot in an aspect ratio of 1.66:1. MGM Region 1 DVD release is pan & scan.

Mad Man Morgan - shot in an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The most recent DVD release, by Troma Entertainment takes the pan & scan version and crops it to 1.66:1.

Young Frankenstein - shot in fullscreen.

Creepshow is 1.85:1 and films shot at that AR are usually matted on the top and bottom.

Eraserhead is supposed to be 1.85:1. Seriously, do you really think David Lynch would put it out in any AR other than what he prefers when it's from his own DVD production?

Young Frankenstein was shot for 1.85:1 just like Creepshow... matted on the top and bottom.

Also, "The Thief and the Cobbler" is only in pan & scan in R1 from Disney/Miramax. The only way to get it in widescreen and uncut is via a bootleg. A real travesty since it was shot in Panavision.

Patrick, there's a whole discussion on the Mel Brooks Collection thread in regards to thing-fish24 and the whole Young Frankenstein aspect ratio. It starts on post #148.

Wrong. The film was SHOT in an aspect ratio of 1.66:1, and shown theatrically in a matted 1.85:1 aspect ratio. It was not shot in fullscreen.

Believe whatever you want to believe. If you think that Young Frankenstein should be widescreen, maybe you believe that Fox should colorize it as well? Then it can be like any other movie instead of an authentic tribute to Universal's Frankenstein series.

Well, that film's also in need of significant reediting and restoration, which the Disney corporation wouldn't be up to. There had been an attempt to restore the film to what the director wanted which stopped when Roy Disney left the company...but that's a whole 'nother story there. I'm personally still peeved that that Iger twit won't release Song of the South, but this isn't the topic for that.
