BTW, thanks gut and EPJK for the nice comments on my collection!

EPJK - do you have a dvdaf link? DVDprofiler is still down, and I'd love to browse your collection.

Gut - I have your dvdaf link bookmarked, so that should tell you something. :)

No, sorry, but I am a DVD Profiler guy. It will be back up soon, so you will be able to view it.

As far as Best Buy, I have also noticed that they appear to be clueless about other release dates. This is a corporate problem which really needs to be addressed.

EPKJ 03-05-04 08:01 AM

I just noticed that Blue Underground has updated their site. They are really going all out with The Final Countdown. They have five releases!

01: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN (2-Disc Limited Edition) - DVD
02: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN (Widescreen Edition) - DVD
03: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN (Full Frame Edition) - DVD
04: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN - VHS
05: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN (Spanish Subtitles) - VHS

This is the first title which Blue Underground has released on VHS to my knowledge. They must really expect to do well with this title. I hope that they do. I will defintely be getting the 2-disc Limited Edition.

- Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion (1970)
( Foto proibite di una signora per bene, Le )
- Girl in the Yellow Pajamas, The (1977)
( Ragazza dal pigiama giallo, La )
- Fifth Cord, The ( Giornata nera per l'ariete ) (1971)
- Death Laid an Egg ( Morte ha fatto l'uovo, La ) (1967)

I wouldn't treat this as gospel, but we can only hope!

Anyone know if at least a couple of these pictures are being released individually? The Fifth Cord is superb, pretty much the equal of anything by Argento. The gorgeous cinematography is by the renowned V. Storaro, and the music by Morricone is not one of those incongruous funky '70s porn-style scores one usually gets with a Giallo. I'd love to have this film on DVD, however, the others not so much. Death Laid an Egg, despite its strong reputation among enthusiasts, is fairly dismal in my view, and, although I haven't seen any of the others, their titles promise sleaze rather than suspense (I have heard good things about The Girl in Yellow Pajamas though).

Knowing Blue Underground, one disc will probably be exclusive to the boxed set, and it will be the one most in demand. Witness Django and The Bloody Judge in previous boxed sets as evidence of this.

I must comment that this list should be in a link. Posting this many titles in one post is just an eyesore. I also note that you have been with the forum long enough to know better. Please edit it.

I don't have a link to a horror collection as of yet. I deleted the post, a link is to be determined at a later date. Thanks for the advice.

Gee, no surprise, eh? :) Here is what I found on IMDB:

"Plot Summary for
Suor Omicidi (1978)

Anita Ekberg and Joe Dallesandro star in this cult horror film about a demented nun sliding through morphine addiction into madness, whilst presiding over a regime of lesbianism, torture and death. Anita plays the head nurse/nun in a general hospital, whose increasingly psychotic behavior endangers the staff and patients around her.
"

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about...

I have a feeling that summer and fall will be very expensive for me this year. Most of Blue Underground's boxed sets seem to be set for later in the year.

EPKJ 03-18-04 09:21 AM

So, how many Blue Underground fans are going to bother buying Zombie now that it is known that Media Blasters will be releasing the 2-disc special edition and Blue Underground only the regular edition?

I suspect gutwrencher won't want this omission from his extensive BU collection regardless of whether the MB release is the more attractive package :D

Anyway...will wait and see how the BU release shapes up against the MB in terms of PQ....they very well may be using the same film print but it remains to be seen whether the transfers will be identical.

EPKJ 03-18-04 09:52 AM

This is tough. I have purchased all of Blue Underground's releases up to now. But, I really cannot justify purchasing an inferior product just because it is Blue Underground.

I agree, however, I have little faith in MB at the moment and will wait for further info. but yes, since I'm planning on having a complete BU library...I'll be getting it. I'll be buying the MB also, of course, as long as this does not turn into a Faceless type nightmare.

The sad thing is that I will probably make an exception and buy both as well. At least we can look forward to a Blue Underground special in two years.
