What's happening with Thriller - A Cruel Picture? Anyone know?

When was this film ever associated with Blue Underground?

I received my Mondo Cane Collection replacement box yesterday. It is the same box but does not appear to be brittle. The box comes folded and mine bloats out at the sides when put together as if it was not glued together properly. However, as long as it does not crack, it will suffice. I just hope that Blue Underground learns from this and uses cardboard boxes from now on. Has anyone had any problems with the replacement box?
Yes, it cracked.

Hopefully, they'll send another one, but that'll probably break too. :(

Damn! That is bad news. How did it crack? Was it just sitting on the shelf?

I think Blue Underground needs a new webmaster. Their site has not been updated in over a month.

I have also noticed that their release schedule has slowed to a crawl.

Nov 2003: 0
Dec 2003: 0
Jan 2004: 2
Feb 2004: 1
Mar 2004: 1
Apr 2004: 1
May 2004: 2

That is only seven DVD's in seven months.

Yes...but at least the quality over quantity issue is one which Blue Underground tend to adhere to....i know Criterion are at the moment seemingly churning out one quality release after another..i'm just thankful Blue Underground aren't quite as industrious otherwise i could be filing for bankruptcy :D

Well, a decreasing release schedule can also be viewed as a sign of financial troubles at the company. Understand, I am not expecting a deluge of titles, but Blue Underground averaged 2.3 DVD's per month in their first year. Still, they are making street dates, so that is a good sign.

I just got the re-release of Grand Slam, and I can confirm that there is no insert. But it comes in a clear keepcase with a double-sided cover insert that lists the chapter selections on the inside cover just like most foreign discs.

I hope they keep this up for future releases. I liked the clear plastic on Sadomania and Girl From Rio.

Too bad. I liked the inserts with the original poster art.

What do you do with the inserts? I can't see much use for them unless they contain liner notes.

Sunday Morning 02-28-04 10:09 PM

I will have to agree with not liking the no insert deal.

Like anchor bay, blue underground was putting in cardboard inserts with the original poster artwork. Since some of the artwork was changed for the dvd, it's nice to have the original or alternate artwork to look at. I even sometimes put the insert in the front sleeve.

The following are now listed as future releases in 2004 for Blue Underground on the Mondo Digital website:

01: High Crime
02: Street Law
03: Heroin Busters
04: The Big Racket
05: The New Barbarians

These are European crime films directed by Enzo Castellari, and presumably will be released together as a boxed set. Does anyone else have more information?

BlackBeauty92 02-28-04 11:18 PM

so, what happen with Zombie 2???

Hmm. That's the only one that I've heard of. Looks like there's no use for a Castellari box set. But it would be a surprise if BU were to create another box set for another set of films this early.

And for the record, no complaints from my Mondo Cane case...yet.

It seems more likely that Blue Underground is following its normal policy of not announcing something until it is actually in the pipeline and moving forward. Also, remember that their website has not been updated since January 21.

Well, we don't know when this set is due. It may not come out until Fall.

Has anyone else had problems finding Fight For Your Life in stores? I couldn't find it anywhere this past week. This is starting to remind me of Image's lousy distribution of Blue Underground discs.

I checked Best Buy again today and they think the release date is 30 March.

Best Buy has also been screwing up other release dates. I read on the Dr. Who thread that they've done the same thing with a Dr. Who release that was supposed to come out this week.

BTW, thanks gut and EPJK for the nice comments on my collection!

EPJK - do you have a dvdaf link? DVDprofiler is still down, and I'd love to browse your collection.

Gut - I have your dvdaf link bookmarked, so that should tell you something. :)
