mine is arriving tomorrow. it's just that I've been working over 60 hours a week and have had little time to sit at a computer.

Its already out.

Its a mother of a set. The films themselves are as soberingly realistic as feature films can be, without the slightest hint of romanticism of its characters or their positions, and the performances are stunning (particularly Roth's in Made in Britain). Except for the 79 Scum, all of the films are shot in very drab 16mm, but the transfers seem pretty much perfect for the materials, so there's no room for complaint...I'm willing to say that they're the best transfers of 16mm I've seen yet. The theatrical Scum, shot in 35mm, is of similar Criterion-challenging quality, with only a few little nicks. The commentaries are excellent...the 2nd commentary on Made in Britain, with the writer and producer, is particularly illuminating, if you're in the dark about British TV movies and specifics about the social and legal climate of the era. Definitely one of the most important releases of the year.

I'm stoked about Fire and Ice now.

I picked up Fast Company, Contraband, and The Final Countdown today. I previewed a bit of all of them, I can't wait!

Giles 09-11-04 12:36 AM

question:

is the Alan Clarke collection a limited edition?

is the Alan Clarke collection a limited edition?
It certainly is.

10,000, I believe. My copy, preordered, was 9004! No wonder I hate numbering!

I only found the number by accident, looking over the box. Its on the bottom.

I think the set might have been more popular than BU expected, and they shipped out more than the original limited supply.

I say this, because mine is number 10423.

TomOpus 09-11-04 04:41 PM

Normally BU will have the number of prints of their Limited Editions on their website, but not for this. It's not even listed as a "Limited Edition" like they do for the Larry Cohen Collection/Final Countdown/Dead & Buried...etc.

Maybe it's numbered but not so limited?

CrumpsBrother 09-11-04 04:48 PM

Oh, I'm psyched for this release as well. I just don't have the $$$ right now with so many other, long awaited (DAWN Box) and limited edition (THRILLER) releases right now. I'm hoping it's still around in a couple of months time and then I'll pick it up.

Actually, SCUM was the first PAL DVD I bought once I went region-free. I've been a fan of the film since I saw it in NY in the early 80s and I thought, "well, here's a film that'll never see a DVD release in the U.S." :) Leave it to BU to prove me wrong. (BTW, the R2 release looks bad...)

Daniel L 09-12-04 10:10 PM

Is there any chance that BU's OOP titles will see print again?

what are the BU titles that have gone OOP so far?

Daniel L 09-13-04 02:48 AM

Dead & Buried and Sadomania are both OOP. Not sure why Sadomania went out, as it's not a LE.

demonio 09-13-04 03:41 AM

if somebody is looking for Dead & Buried I'll gladly trade it

but you can still pick them up on line still, as well as B & M, so dont go over paying at ebays

CrumpsBrother 09-13-04 10:07 PM

Per hometheaterinfo.com, BABA YAGA and DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS are OOP, as well.

CrumpsBrother 09-13-04 10:11 PM

Also, on another topic...

I was at a Los Angeles art theater (the Nu Art) the other night and saw a trailer for Van Bebber's MANSON FAMILY...presented by Blue Underground! Evidently, we can now get our BU fix away from our couches, as well... ;)

Daniel L 09-13-04 10:30 PM

I made a mistake:

Sadomania is NOT OOP.. There was an incorrect transfer on the original version (which is now OOP), but BU is offering a new version that corrects the problem.

The Exister 10-04-04 12:54 PM

Is The Spaghetti Western Collection box OOP? Nobody seems to have it online...

EDIT: I just checked the hometheaterforum list and it appears to be OOP. The question is: will it be getting a re-release?

Daniel L 10-04-04 04:36 PM

Salon Kitty is coming in the mail (will probably be OOP soon), and hopefully I can still pick up the Alan Clarke collection before it's gone.

Emanuelle In America will be in my next DDD order, no doubt. :)

Sadomania, Justine, and Eugenie need some company!
