I also have a bunch of DVDs signed by Mike Nelson, but I simply purchased them through Legend Films. I attended a screening of Millions before the release and Danny Boyle was there...if only I had known. I also missed a chance to get The Truman Show signed by Andrew Niccol, and worst of all, a chance to get Freddy Got Fingered signed by Tom Green (now that would be something to treasure). Oh well...who knows who will be in Seattle in the future...

I've got:

MST3K Volume 5 signed by Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett
All three original Star Trek seasons signed by Shatner and Nimoy
STAR WARS: A New Hope signed by Carrie Fisher

And a bunch of other stuff. But those are my best ones.

I have a question I will have the opportunity to meet Oscar Winner Marlee Matlin and besides the obvious choice of signing my "Children of a Lesser God" DVD what else should I get her to sign? An original movie poster? an 8x10 still? In other words besides a DVD what would you have a Best Actress Oscar winner sign?

TomOpus 06-30-07 09:00 AM

I guess it would depend on a few factors:

1) Do you have other signed posters/8x10s that this would look good along side?
2) Do you already have the poster/8x10 in your possession? Which looks nicer? Favorite?
3) Would it be a pain to haul a poster tube around?

If you're not into posters, I'd get a nice 8x10, bring a Sharpie in a color that would be easy to see and bring a hard plastic document protector (or something similar to avoid damage until you can hang it).

AndyA 06-30-07 09:10 AM

I have an in person Appolo 13 Poster signed by Jim Lovell. A framed, new poster would look nice with it. I did by an original "Children Of A Lesser God Poster" which I now have. But I thought about an 8x10. I could get one before I meet her. I see what you mean with storage and such but in the long run would a poster hold more value than an 8x10? Oh well maybe I will get lucky and have her sign all 3 for me

Zen Peckinpah 06-30-07 09:15 AM

My stepsister and brother-in-law were at a golf fundraiser hosted by Joe Pesci, who I think they may have met along with Mark Wahlberg. I was going to give them my Goodfellas SE to have him sign, and then give them Boogie Nights and my Departed steelbook for Wahlberg. Unfortunately, they forgot to remind me and I forgot to remind them.

TomOpus 06-30-07 09:19 AM

An original poster would probably hold more value. But I think of signed items in more personal terms as to which would be a nicer keepsake :)

If you get the 8x10, a blue Sharpie looks nice if it's a b/w picture with a lot of white. If there's a lot of black, use a silver one. If you want a color 8x10 find one with a nice solid color area for the signature.

If this is a group signing, be sure to bring your own Sharpie to ensure fresh ink and a sharp tip. Btw, what's the occasion?

AndyA 06-30-07 01:49 PM

She will be speaking at a local University later this year. My friend is in charge of this and I usually get some private time with the guests. 10-12 people in a very relaxed atmosphere before she speaks that night. It has been my experience they will always sign there books almost with pleasure. After I have her sign her two books I figured I would bust out the poster and have her sign that if she seems in a good mood. I know it seems greedy but 3 signatures in a small atmoshpere should not take her more than :15 seconds and again most celebrities are happy someone bought there book or in this case two of hers. I don't know she might refuse to sign everything
but I doubt it.

TomOpus 06-30-07 02:05 PM

She seems like a nice person so hopefully she'll be in a good mood. Sounds like you have time to plan it out. Sounds like a cool time.

cupcake jesus 06-30-07 06:37 PM

If season 2 of My Name Is Earl was out on DVD, I'd have her sign that. Absolutely brilliant stuff.

cheers,

I got Reggie Jackson to sign my copy of Baseketball. He seemed... less than thrilled.

I didn't have Naked Gun or else I would have asked him for that one instead.

Just got back from the Berlin concert. Terri Nunn is the sweetest person... and I didn't expect her to be so tiny!

Mike Mignola (Hellboy's daddy)

That Mignola is nice. He is coming to Baltimore in September for the comic-con. Did he just draw Hellboy, or did you have to request it? I'm thinking of going just for him.

Got to meet one of my idols at Comic-Con... George Romeo. Really nice friendly guy. Click for larger image.

Looking for some opinions here ... For a DVD that included a limited edition bonus booklet/comic, would it be better to get the booklet/comic signed as opposed to the actual DVD packaging?

Specifically, I'm talking about the Heroes S1 Best Buy exclusive with the bonus comic. I'm thinking to get just the comic signed because a) it is easier to maintain in pristine condition (as opposed to the packaging, which will be handled whenever the discs are watched, and b) it seems it would take signatures better than the glossy packaging.

I'm thinking to bring along my own silver sharpie for the cast to sign with. Even though the cover of the bonus comic doesn't consist of too many dark tones, I'm thinking it will still look nicer. But do I need to worry about the marker soaking through the cover and potentially imprinting/ruining the pages under the cover? Should I place a couple of sheets of blank paper under the cover to absorb any print that might soak through? I'm thinking about this way too much ...

TomOpus 08-29-07 06:15 PM

If they used quality paper, it shouldn't soak through. You could put a test dot in a corner to see what happens.

Another thing to consider is how many cast members are signing. Will they all fit on the front page? If it's a small area, they might tend to write small which could make their sigs hard to read... especially if they're in a hurry to get everyone done.

Anyway, have fun and post back with pics :)

I'm hoping to get Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale, Zachary Quinto, and James Kyson Lee to sign the front cover of the comic. I bought a pack of fine tip metallic silver Sharpies, just in case they have crap pens on hand. I haven't opened the pack yet, so can anyone tell me just how "fine" the fine tip Sharpies are? I have an ultra-fine tip Sharpie on hand, but that one seems to write too thin to be suitable for autographs. Will 4 signatures fit well on a surface about the size of the front of a dvd case, with the fine tip? If there's room left, I would like to get Hayden to sign it next year at the Toronto Comicon also.

TomOpus 08-30-07 06:13 PM

I haven't had problems with the fine tip Sharpies. I always bring mine with me for the same reason. As long as they don't get crazy with the size of their sigs, you should be fine with 4 or so.
