Thanks for posting, I was waiting for this announcement. I'm not going to get excited yet because it is Universal, but I like the specs, at least it's anamorphic now.

26th? Anniversary Edition? C'mon Universal, should've done this last year!

Mr. Cinema 04-22-05 09:54 AM

If you notice, it's a 26th Anniversary Edition that comes out on the 26th. And with the title being "The Jerk", I kinda take this as a joke on their part.

Geofferson 04-22-05 10:34 AM

Glad to hear it, but still disappointed since I was hoping for The Jerk Too to be paired with this, as I stated above...oh well.

mikewendt 04-22-05 10:50 AM

I've been waiting for this for a long time...

Not a joke at all; I saw the same announcement that DVDAnswers did. In fact, I knew Tom at DVDAnswers had a handle on it, but Bill over at TheDigitalBits had said he was planning to take today off. So I sent him a note urging him to at least post about this, since he and Adam over there have been jonesing for it for so long. And what do you know, he posted it! :)

If this is a joke, it's a cruel, cruel one..

Mr. Cinema 04-22-05 01:15 PM

You read my post wrong. I believe it is coming out. I was saying that they're calling it a 26th Anniversary Edition and having it come out on the 26th because "The Jerk" is a great stupid comedy. I thought Universal was trying to be clever with how they are releasing it.

PotVsKtl 04-22-05 01:33 PM

Am I missing something? What's funny about the number 26?

Atreus 04-22-05 01:38 PM

I have been waiting for this announcement for so long. I have been holding off buying the current edition because I knew this wood get a decent version at some point.

emhello 04-22-05 03:05 PM

I won't buy this movie until they release a widescreen version.

I think the reason 26 is suppose to be funny is because its an oddball aniversary to pick (most studios use like 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and so on) If a moive's being released on an oddball number (like 17th anniversary) they they normally would just call it a special edition and not bother to mention the anniversary date... but a movie about a dumb guy wouldn't realized that 26 is an odd number to celebrate...

Universal has been re-releasing dvds with special names (ie haf baked : fullly baked edition, fast and furious:tricked out edition, bourne identity: explosive edition) Well for the Jerk its the 26th anniversary... it's not hilarious number by itself, they're just going with the clueless goofball theme of the moive

BTW, I can't wait to get this on DVD

Peperfatso 04-22-05 03:27 PM

Awesome news on this (finally) getting an anamorphic widescreen release. Too bad it looks like no commentary track.

That's what I was trying to get across. :)

It will be a great day when this comes out. One of the funniest movie's I've ever seen.

Cameron 04-23-05 12:21 AM

great news.....love this one

Scott Weinberg 04-23-05 09:05 PM

Fantastic news! I've avoided the FF DVD for years! Yes!

I'm thrilled enough to get this one in my collection, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a few more extra features. Obviously there's a handful of deleted scenes out there, and I'd pay at least one dollar (and nine cents!) for a Steve Martin audio commentary.

Mr. Cinema 04-23-05 10:28 PM

Now "Ace Ventura" moves up on my list of comedies that need a 16x9 release.

Also the "21st Anniversary Edition" of Monty Python and the Holy Grail that came out on VHS in 1996.

Region 2, my friend.

Mr. Cinema 04-24-05 12:16 PM

My player is Region 1 only, so if they don't make it in Region 1, then I won't own it.
