Possible News: The Pirate Movie on DVD
According to the unofficial Pirate Movie Website:
Announcements:
DVD NEWS: It looks like the DVD is planned for a release next year. I am hearing March for Australia and "soon after that" for the US release. They are also searching for bonus material but nothing is confirmed.
I don't know where they got their info from, but I hope to god this is true. It would look so nice sitting beside my Xanadu and The Wiz discs.

They've been playing this movie recently on different Fox channels. I figured (and was hoping) that they were feeling out the waters for a possible DVD release. I'd certainly buy this movie on DVD. It's totally a guilty pleasure. This coming from someone with a huge childhood crush on Chris Atkins.

You just made me a very happy man (and it takes a real man to admit he likes this movie)!
This was a great childhood movie that they played on HBO every few hours back when they had 20 movies to choose from. Now if they would just release the soundtrack on CD so I could dump my LP!

NEWS!
Fox is releasing "The Pirate Movie" in region 2 March 3rd, 2003! All UK retailers have it listed. Pre-order yours now. You'll need a region 2 or a multi-region player. No specs are given, so I don't even know if it'll be in widescreen.

As for the Pirate Movie, it's weird...I seem to remember this movie...but I don't. In fact, a couple days ago I d/l the soundtrack on USENet [which is what prompted me to find out if the DVD was available] and I remembered most of the songs...but not the movie.
Weird? I know.
At any rate, I think i'll pick this up if it does get released.

I wasn't going to get this because I figured I would watch it once and forget about it. But I found a $1 VHS copy at a thrift store and figured that would hold me over. Then I got a brilliant idea and managed to sell the OOP VHS copy on Amazon for $17. Gonna turn that around and order the DVD from DDD. Once all is said and done, I will make about $1 on this deal and get the DVD.

I checked the closed-captions and they work, there's no player-generated subtitles like there are on most DVDs- Anchor Bay doesn't like to use them for some reason. Will have to watch it again with the captions so I can finally get all the words to the songs right! The 5.1 mix was unimpressive, but it also includes the pro-logic mix which hopefully sounds as good as it always has.
