Just say Arrrr!!! to pirated pirate movies.

Bill Needle 03-20-05 04:11 PM

No man ever pirated Yellowbeard, and lived!

Snowmaker 03-20-05 07:47 PM

He never said he was selling them.

TexasGonzo 04-06-05 01:07 PM

Bootleg Yellowbeard DVDs are on ebay

ebay says they don't allow boot dvds, but the site is full of them from movies just like Yellowbeard that for some reason have yet to be put onto dvd by the studio, so people will do their best to make some money, hey if the studio does not want it maybe the little guy can make a few bucks, i however have it on video tape and will set back and wait, and wait some more for the studio to finally release this funny movie on dvd and lets hope that it will be a special edition with loads of extras. it is after all a cult classsic and deserves no less.

If the actual rights holder complains, they will stop the individual auctions, but that's as much as they'll usually do.

Snowmaker 12-01-05 08:31 PM

Will we EVER see this movie on DVD????

Joe Molotov 12-01-05 10:02 PM

I don't know, but it looks like the bootleggers on Ebay have released a 2-Disc Collector's Edition.

Joe Molotov 12-12-05 01:19 AM

You can't get the DVD, but apparently you can get this. It seems to have been released fairly recently.

I have no idea why you can buy Yellowbeard the book, but you still can't get the DVD. If there's one thing I've learned, it's learning things never taught me nothing. And books is the worst. Still, I may buy this.

Runinman 01-31-06 10:11 AM

I am new to your forum but share your pain I can't see paying $30 + to own an old rental copy that has hardly any play left. There has to be enough of us to start emailing someone.

Yellowbeard: Dying's the easy way out. You won't catch me dying. They'll have to kill me before I die!

Apocrypha 02-27-06 01:02 PM

This movie is a good example of stuff that ebay dubbers rake off of and the studios ignore, by the way the script book by Graham Chapman is a hoot with a long and informative introduction about all involved with a script treatment of unproduced trailers as well. It might be worth picking up if you want to show em Yellowbeard has some fans.

Wick 02-27-06 02:36 PM

A friend of mine is borrowing a copy of this film, on DVD, from someone he knows. The quality is shit, but I'm almost positive that it is not a bootleg. It seems to be one of those $5 cheap DVDs, that you can get at Wal*mart, or something. I could be wrong, though.

As for the movie...I'm not a big fan.

Cameron 02-27-06 03:36 PM

it is most def a boot. Yellowbard has not been released

Bill Needle 02-27-06 05:48 PM

Baby Jesus cries every time this thread is bumped with no release announcement.

So do I. :(

Joe Molotov 02-27-06 09:24 PM

It's been almost a year since I made the first post on this page, and over 3 1/2 years since the thread was started. Can we get some Yellowbeard on DVD, plz?

Who owns that movie and where do we write to?

I'm guessing Sony. It was released by Orion Pictures after they broke off from Warner Bros., so it should have been among the catalog of movies that went to MGM and then later Sony.

Runinman 02-28-06 12:48 PM

Is it a bootleg.

Now technically is it a bootleg if it is taped off of HBO and before the showing of the film it does not have a piracy disclaimer? Not that I am condoning bootlegging in anyway but from a technical standing if it does not say for private use only like on DVD's and VHS is it protected from you recording it, or even letting someone borrow it?
Don't know if anyone has a definate ruling on this.

".. they'll have to kill me before I die!"

Cameron 02-28-06 01:01 PM

if youb bought or trade for a copy that is not an official release, then it is a bootleg. Plain and simple.

tonyc3742 02-28-06 01:01 PM

Technically it's a bootleg, I would say.
Buying or selling it is illegal and wrong [not saying you are].
Copying a program off TV and keeping it for 'personal private/home use' is technically legal according to Fair Use, I believe.
Converting to DVD, even for your own use, is iffy--now you're getting into 'altering' the program or the media, which I don't think you would technically have the right to do. Obviously, if you tape a program/movie off TV, convert to DVD, destroy the VHS, stick the DVD in your DVD rack for your family's personal viewing, though that's probably technically 'illegal', I don't see the Movie Police busting in to your house to find it.

You never know. Yellowbeard bootlegging is costing them millions of dollars a year in lost revenue, and they're really cracking down on that. ;)

I'm just glad I still have my crusty old VHS copy laying around.

It's the only non-home recorded VHS tape I still own.

Runinman 03-03-06 08:43 AM

Well it was originaly recorded off of the television using a DVD recorder so I don't have to transfer it, luckily! I am surprised Ebay allows so many bootlegs to be sold, I have seen so many other auction pulled because they didn't go "along" with their "Ethics Policy".

Yellowbeard: With your head on my shoulders we could wreck civilization!

ignition 04-14-06 09:36 PM

I'm surprised no one's picked up on this... I've never even heard of the damn movie outside of this forum and despite not being interested in this title at all, I figured everyone else may be :D

Per DavisDVD.com:

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Yellowbeard on June 27th. The 1983 pirate comedy stars Monty Python's Graham Chapman and Eric Idle, along with a bunch of cameos including Cheech & Chong, John Cleese, James Mason and - in his final role - Mart Feldman. The bare-bones disc will include an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital Surround track. Retail is $14.94.
