RUN MAN RUN: This release of RUN MAN RUN is the first fully uncut version to be released in America. Directed by Sergio Sollima (REVOLVER, VIOLENT CITY), and starring Tomas Milian (TRAFFIC), this brutal, often sadistic, western is an epic political thriller, complete with an Ennio Morricone/Bruno Nicolai score. Milian plays the role of Cuchillo, on the run from bandits, federal agents, bounty hunters, and his of gold which could potentially fund the Mexican Revolution, and Cuchillo is going to have some running to do if he wants to achieve his target. RUN MAN RUN pulls no punches in getting its overtly political message across, the performances and direction eventually culminating in a bloody finale that will have you on the edge of your seat. MANNAJA: A MAN CALLED BLADE:Presented fully uncut for the first time in America, MANNAJA is a spaghetti western from the twisted mind of infamous Italian director Sergio Martino (TORSO). Maurizio Merli (FATAL CHARMS, FEARLESS) stars as Blade, a ruthless bounty hunter trying to escape from his past misdeeds. A fierce orgy of guns and violence erupts when Blade upsets the residents of a corrupt town, causing numerous standoff's between himself and the local residents. For fans who have awaited this release for many years, the good news is that the infamous 'eyeball torture' scene is fully intact. For newcomers, the mere fact that there is an 'eyeball torture' sequence should give you some idea of the no-holds barred thrills that await |
Sounds good. I've been meaning to check out A Man Called Blade.

I'm curious as to whether or not Find A Place To Die is any good or not. I like Jeffrey Hunter, and the idea of him in a spaghetti western is intruiging.
I like the Leone films, but those and about 30 minutes of a really piss poor print of Death Rides A Horse is all that I've really seen in the genre (and DRAH looked pretty like a darned good movie, and it's just a shame that the only versions out there seem to be complete and utter crap when it comes to print quality). Any other suggestions to start my spaghetti western collection with? |

I enjoyed the movie, but it's not the best Spaghetti I've ever seen. However, the DVD is pretty cheap ($5.95 at Digitaleyes.net: http://www.digitaleyes.net/Details.cfm?info=VCI8313DVD). |

I finally watched the Once Upon a Time in the West SE the other day. Wow!
Loved the 3 doc's too - great to see the cast/filmmakers talk about their experiences making this movie and their memories of Leone. I'd be curious to see some of the footage that was cut from the 165m version. There were some stills of a scene where Harmonica gets beaten up by the Sheriff. Someday perhaps... |

I just listened to the cast/crew/historian commentary on OUATITW. Very moving and left me a bit misty-eyed. (don't recall that ever happening on a commentary before)

According to the reliable spaghetti guys over at Sartana's site, Diamond has a new 5-Disc set out including:
JOHNNY YUMA ANY GUN CAN PLAY FIND A PLACE TO DIE SAVAGE GUNS WHITE COMANCHE IT CAN BE DONE AMIGO HELLBENDERS BOOT HILL CUTTHROATS 9 BETWEEN GOD, THE DEVIL AND A WINCHESTER THIS MAN CAN'T DIE MINNESOTA CLAY THE FIGHTING FISTS OF SHANGHAI JOE Some of the movies are said to be in widescreen, others in full. But still all for a modest $9.99! You guys out there scope for this set to see if there's plenty to be found. I'd love to pick this one up. |
Thanks for the heads-up on this!

I will look for this to.

Sounds good, but I'm having trouble finding it online. Any links to online stores where this can be bought?

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...d&vi=tech-info Not sure if to many on-line stores sell Diamond but Amazon does. It does say the release date is 8/30/05 though. Anyone know of any other on-line places that carry Diamond? In the past I have found them in FYE B&M movie stores. |
I've got a FYE near me, so I may go check them out this weekend.

Thought readers of this thread might be interested to hear that MGM are releasing 3 Lee Van Cleef spaghetti's in the UK on 15 August - Death Rides a Horse, Sabata and Return of Sabata. A tenner each.

The Fye movie store B&M had one set of the Spaghetti Westerns from Diamond. It was 11.99. Not bad for the price. 5 titles are WS. The remaining 8 are P&S, FF. Pretty decent quality compared to Direct Source or the sets seen in the walmart bin of like titles.

Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment has announced the Sabata Trilogy Collection which includes the 70s Westerns - Adios Sabata, Return of Sabata and Sabata. The set will be available to own from the 18th October this year, and should set you back somewhere in the region of around $35.95. I'm afraid we have no word on any extra material for this one at the moment, but we'll let you know if we hear anything. Stay tuned. |
I haven't seen any of the Sabata movies, but how can you lose with Lee Van Cleef? Plus, that boxart is nice.

Sabata Trilogy = Great News
These are the best Spaghetti Westerns not directed by Sergio Leone. |
That's a good start - BTW, UK & Germany are releasing them along with Death Rides a Horse this month, individually. But I don't know whether Adios Sabata (Yul Brynner) will also be released in UK & Germany together.
|
Just finished watching the new R2 DVD of Death Rides A Horse. Well worth a tenner (of Her Majesty's pounds that is). The picture quality is immeasurably better than those cheapo jobs on sale at Amazon. No extra's though, not even a trailer. Even so, well worth the dosh.
Was also planning to invest in Sabata, but after seeing the post about the R1 boxset due in October, thought I would wait for that instead. |
Does anybody know for sure (or at least some measure of certainty) that Death Rides a Horse is not coming to R1? I'd like to get the R2 but don't want an R1 release to come out right after.

Yet another Leone book from Frayling, this looks to be more of an illustrated coffee table style book. Apparently it is being published to coincide with a Leone exhibition in L.A. this summer. This will be released July 2005. It was at the Gene Autry Museum of the American West: http://www.museumoftheamericanwest.o...xhibits/leone/ It was quite honestly one of the neatest things I've ever witnessed at a museum. They had Eastwood's original poncho, boots, gun and holster that he used and wore during the trilogy. They had Henry Fonda's outfit that he wore in Once Upon a Time in the West, along with Claudia Cardinale's. They also had the saddle that Terence Hill rode in My Name is Nobody. Sadly, I could not take any pictures though. If anyone is ever in the area, I highly recommend you go. Admission is $7.50 and the exhibit lasts until January 2006. |
^Too bad I can't pay a visit down there :(
In other spaghetti-related news, starting next saturday on IFC, they're gonna have "spaghetti saturdays" with airings of Good/Bad/Ugly,For/Dollars More,Big Gundown and Great Silence. An hour long documentary, "Spaghetti West" will be shown before the movies. Oh and I picked up that Diamond set of movies. Found a copy at Suncoast. But man, what's with this packaging?? |

Thanks for the heads-up on IFC...looking forward to the documentary in particular. |
Spag. Western Web board said that Diamond set steals from various sources, Wild East & VCI. They ripped off the copies. But as you've already bought it, it doesn't really matter anymore.

Sabata Trilogy seems to have had a price drop before it came out. The msrp was 35.95 and I pre-ordered it at DDD for 25.07. I was just checking today on the release date and saw the msrp was now listed at 29.95 and DDD is now charging 22.49. I cancelled the first order and placed another.
