Tired of broken hubs
I bought a DVD today from Walmart and always try to feel or hear if the disc is loose. This was a 2-disc edition and I thought it was fine until I got home. One of the hubs has a few broken spindles and disc #2 was loose. I will take it back tomorrow and exhange it for the same title and hopefully good case.
As I've warned before about buying from their bargain bin, the way customers (and some employees) throw them around, I'm not surprised more customer complaints. Purchase today wasn't from the bin but from the shelf.
Maybe the studios are opting for cheaper made cases now.

Re: Tired of broken hubs
I think the thing here is the average person buying the $5 DVDs at Walmart most likely don't use the cases, instead opting for the pile of DVDs by the TV or one of those binder things. I know my family does both! This is how I get their old cases.

Re: Tired of broken hubs
Maybe I'm not an average buyer but I do keep my DVDs in the cases/boxes. I also kept my 33 1/3 and 45 rpm records in their jackets/sleeves and CDs in their jewel boxes.
If I were to get rid of any of my "records" on Amazon or eBay, they'd be as close to mint-condition as possible.
