TV Series with inconsistent packaging...Ugh

So I just received Law & Order: Criminal Intent Seasons 3 and 4 in the mail today. I open the box up and took a look at them and the first thing that popped into my mind is how many different styles of packaging does Universal have to try before they decide on one? The first season which I received a while back was in an over-sized digipack with a slip case. The second they changed to a better three slim cases housed in a slip case. Fine, whatever I get that maybe they thought that the first was over-sized and wanted to change it with the second season on out. Then for the third season what do they go and do, decide to go back to the digipack again this time with a clear slip cover that goes over the top of the digipack. They changed their mind yet again with the fourth season and did like with season two's packaging only now the color is way different compared to the others (its blue instead of the mostly blacks of the previous three sets).

This is really annoying I usually don't care this much but this is probably the most inconsistent packaging of a TV show I own. So basically this thread is whats your TV series (or movie series) with the most inconsistent packaging?

Law and Order is the most guilty of this. And only made worse that they released sets out of order.

I'd venture a guess and say that Alias is the most guilty of this, as every season they released was packaged differently.

LOST really pissed me off.

Sometimes I think they do it on purpose in order to get you to buy the complete series set.

Lost had incredibly consistent packaging for it's first 4 seasons, then they screwed it all up with the 5th season in that cheap cardboard box. I guess it's mostly gotta do with the amount of discs in the package but still, they suck.

Kind of surprising that nobody has pointed out that this thread:

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk-co...-tv-shows.html

deals with the exact topic as this one and is only down about 4 threads below this one.

Even more surprising is that a mod has not merged these 2 threads.

Smallville

The artwork is pretty consistent season-to-season, but I think there has now been at least 3 (maybe 4?) didn't types of packaging.

There have been 4
-The really thick one with the big bulky plastic dvd holders
-A slightly slimmer version of that
-The overlapping dvd trays
-The newest has the plastic thick dvd case inside a cardboard sleeve

Re: TV Series with inconsistent packaging...Ugh

Yeah, Law & Order really pisses me off. I have 10 seasons of SVU, 6 of the original, and 3 of CI so far. The inconsistent packaging is crazy. Has anyone complained to Universal about this silly shit? I love the slimcase style packaging, but half the ones I've received of the Law & Order shows have had shattered hubs on arrival! It's bad enough they'll probably never get seasons 9-14 on DVD at this rate. I wonder if anyone has done scans of the outside packaging for the L&O sets. Get some 6-disc cases, print some cover art, and to hell with inconsistency.

Re: TV Series with inconsistent packaging...Ugh

This isn't really a series change, as the cases are the same, but the latest Doctor Who releases have changed the BBC logo on the spine by putting it in a bright purple box. This really clashes with the others when you have them all lined up on a shelf. You have a bunch that are black spines with the white BBC letters, then all of a sudden, there's a big purple square staring you right in the face.

I assume you're talking about classic doctor who releases, correct?

Re: TV Series with inconsistent packaging...Ugh

Right. For years, the spines had the BBC letters in white against black. Below that, was a picture of the doctor that was in that particular story, then the name of the episodes. But now, the BBC letters are in a purple box. So, I have a handful of dvds that are all uniform, a really strange spine that sticks out, then a dozen more regular boxes. But I don't mind too much. The story in question isn't my favourite one of the bunch.

I beleive the first season of Six Feet Under had a package that was shorter than all the other seasons.

Nope, the opposite....it was larger than the rest.

I hate how the fourth vol of Futurama has that stupid clear plastic case over it, when all the others are cardboard.

That just gives me even more incentive to get the eventual Blu-Ray releases (not going to bother buying the new, standard case releases) which I assume will have consistent packaging (pretty much every tv show I've seen on Blu-Ray has the same standard BD case with a slipcover, although the width is larger for some releases, like Lost).

Everwood season three is in a box the size of a standard case. so each of the three seasons out so far has a different sized case

Yeah, that really does suck, though they did put out a second printing of season one thats very close to the size of the season 2 box.

Re: TV Series with inconsistent packaging...Ugh

Just got my Eureka season 3.5 (don't even get me started on split season releases) and while I am pleased it has the exact same packaging as season 3.0, something else bugs me about it. Yet another spine layout. 4 different releases, 3 different types of packaging, yet they can't figure out how to get the spines to match up. This just frustrates me to no end when this happens. I'm really tempted to get some new cases for these, and recycle the old ones (since they advertise them as being 100% recyclable) so everything is a little more consistent. I'm really hoping they don't do another split season release for season 4.

1 season of the Simpsons
I hate Season 6's case. Even the replacement sucks.

Why are companies releasing some seasons on Blu-ray and others they don't.

Damages
Nip/Tuck
