Disc sleeves with trays that fit two in 12.5" wide?
Like many others here, I have way too many DVDs for space I have to store them in. I'm looking for a solution to my DVD storage problem and putting them in sleeves with artwork looks like the solution I'd like to go with.
I use an ikea shelf unit with roughly cubical storage units measuring 12.5" W x 10.75" H x 15.5" D for my media storage and am flat out of space. I would like to transfer all my cd's and dvd's into sleeves and then put two trays side-by-side in each cube.
I have so far looked at two main sources: discsox and slappa.
Discsox:
- the DVD Pro sleeve is 6 3/16" wide and the HiDef Pro is 6 1/4" wide and the clear tray is 6 5/8" wide, meaning two side by side is 13.25" wide and won't fit in the cubes on my shelf.
- the DVD2 sleeve is 5 1/8" wide and the tray is 5 3/8" wide meaning two side by side are only 10.75", leaving plenty of room for space in between and on each side. However, to put artwork in this sleeve, you have to fold it twice, including making a new crease on the back cover, which I don't want to do.
Slappa:
- the d2i sleeve is listed as 6.5" wide itself and the storage box is also 6.5" so I could not fit two side-by-side. The d3i is also listed as 6.5" wide. This is very wide considering that you still have to fold the artwork on the back cover.
An additional option is:
JazzLoft Space-Saving DVD Sleeves. These are listed as 5 7/8" wide, which would fit my space but the pictures so the cover art inside with the spine section curving around, which wouldn't be good for stacking since it would puff up the left side. I emailed them to see if the spine art could be flattened and still fit and what the width would be in that configuration.
I did some measurements and calculations to see if fitting two trays side-by-side in this space would actually be possible. Measuring actual DVD artwork, when the edge title is folded flat so it is facing the same way as the front (as shown in the DVD Pro example pictures), the width is 5.5" and the Hi-Def artwork width is just slightly smaller. So if the sleeves and trays were actually made to this width, it would fit, even accounting for 1/8" on each side of the sleeve and 1/8" on each side for the tray.
Looking at the discsox's DVD Pro sleeve, it's not clear why the sleeve is over half an inch wider than necessary. Not having seen the items in person, i don't see why there is the blank DISCSOX.COM area on the right side of the DVD Pro and HiDef Pro sleeves. I suspect this is purely to accommodate the Warner cardboard boxes. I would be willing to color copy those cases and store them separately to have a narrower sleeve.
Basically, it looks like what I would want is something in between the DVD Pro/HiDef Pro and the DVD2 sleeve. I don't want to fold the covers like the DVD2 requires but don't have the space to waste on width like the DVD Pro, either.
Can anybody with the discsox system measure their clear tray and see if two can actually fit side by side in 12.5" width and still have enough gap space to be usable?
Also, are there any other sleeve system options that I can look into?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Disc sleeves with trays that fit two in 12.5" wide?
Let me make this a simpler question in hopes of a few more replies:
Are there any other DVD sleeves out there other than those from discsox, slappa, or jazzloft?
Thanks.
