Frankly, I hate the keep cases. Especially something like Dollhouse where they don't even get a slipcover, but just a piece of one pasted onto the front.
I think the widescreen of csi season 1 was only on bluray and not dvd... i wish they did both... and i agree, if HIMYM season 1 was released in widescreen, that would be nice.

Also, on a side note, does anyone know where I can buy these cases that they are now using. I have a few things I know aren't going to be re-released and they simply take too much space.

EDIT: I figured out who makes them : viva-eco-box . com / dvdmulti . html, but I'm not sure how to buy them yet.

Warner has done the same with their Blu-rays as well - they now all slide in instead of a normal slip cover.

Disney has also continued with the DVD case and Slip cover. Got Dirty Sexy Money Season 2 and its a clear DVD case with slip cover that does not match Season 1...sigh.

Correct - Blu-ray only.

AND

They repackaged the fullscreen season 1 DVDs that have been around since the beginning in case that matches the Blu-ray cover art.

Yes, but not like the ones being discussed in this thread. In fact, I have yet to find those anywhere.

I guess you are talking about the Viva cases that some releases have used. I havent seen those cases avaialbly anywhere, but a 6 disc case is a 6 disc case.

Definitely a legit site, and a great seller. I have bought over 1000 cases from him, and never had an issue. Shipping is very reasonable, appears to be very close to the actual cost to ship, rather than an ultra inflated price. Added bonus for me, is that he is in CT, so I get stuff with ground shipping the day after he sends them out.

Yeah, I might have to settle for those. The positioning of the disc-holders in the case isn't a big deal, but the color is. I wish they had clear ones on that site as well.

I just saw the new Stargate SG-1 re-packs at Costco. They come in a regular clear keepcase, with brand-new artwork, which holds 5 discs. Does anyone know if this new Season 8 re-pack include the extended version of Threads?

I still think the worst ones are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cartoons. I stopped counting how many times they have changed the way they release season/volume sets. But for some silly reason, I'm still buying them. The very worst one was Season Four which had this ridiculous Slipcover that actually had a jutted out head of Raphael I think. When they released Season 7 in 4 parts, I thought I was going to shoot somebody, but thankfully they re-released that in one set eventually.

If the original one did, this one should too. Pretty sure it's just the same dvds in a new case.

Because of the packaging changes I've converted almost all of my tv shows into regular width cases with custom art. Still looking for a good 24 set though.....also saves a TON of space!

Would you mind sharing what kind of cases you use and where you got them? Thanks.

Me too. Would love to find a nice spanning spine set now that we know the show is ending after this season. Problem I run into, is most of the 24 season sets are 7 discs rather than 6 discs, so that makes me use a case winder than a standard width case.

Re: What's the deal with studios changing packaging on TV shows?

I'm still surprised that the 14mm 5 and 6 disc cases that alot of studios are using for their tv shows are not available for public purchase yet. I've been searching for the past 6 months and cannot find the same ones for purchast online. Anyone else have any luck?

Edit: I did notice that all my 5-6 disc cases like this say ONE-Time along the spine, anyone know anything about that brand?

I love the 6 disc case for the LOTR blu-ray.

Yeah, i'm talking about the same thing as those, but in DVD case form. They use the exact same disc holders, just in black or clear. I really wanna be able to buy these cases.

Re: What's the deal with studios changing packaging on TV shows?

I don't like the hubs on the 14mm 6D cases (Alias, Farscape A&E, Star Trek blu-ray) because it's hard to get the discs off of them. I find it very difficult to remove the discs on the swingers without bending them. Sometimes, they'll sort of pop off when I put presure on the center of the hub, but most of the time they hold the disc in a deathgrip.

Or is there some kind of "trick" to getting them out that I'm unaware of?

I have that problem with the 6-disc Blu-ray cases, definitely. I love the size and compact nature of them, but it's definitely a bitch to remove the discs. I'm always scared I'm going to snap them in half.

I've never really had that much of a problem with them. I usually just put my thumb on the hub and pull the disc off like that. I just wish I could buy these somewhere so I can make more fit on my shelves.

Re: What's the deal with studios changing packaging on TV shows?

This is why I throw the DVD case in the rubbish, rip the DVD to my HTPC and put the DVD into a CD sized slip cover and file it away with the artwork. I used to have racks and racks of DVD cases but I got tired of looking at it and also hunting for the physical DVD when I wanted to watch a movie.

Has anyone picked up the season two Mary Tyler Moore repackage? I'm wondering if disc three is still a flipper....
