Re: Sony's New DVD Cases - Horrible Idea
I just bought a new copy of "Young Frankenstein" on SD, and it too has this horrible casing with the recycle-holes on both sides. I noticed also that there were slight smudges on the back of the disc, no doubt because our fingers naturally clutch the case dead center where the disc is most vulnerable to accidental destruction. It's straight to the thinpak case for this disc.

Just bought Bio-Dome (WS) SD and it had the eco packaging. (Yes you can say I deserve it for buying that movie, but it was only $5.00 and has Kylie Minogue and Joey Adams in it )

For every movie I buy with this stupid eco packaging, I'll just replace it with a real case. That's hardly helping the enviroment, except for the case I will recycle.

Re: Sony's New DVD Cases - Horrible Idea
unfortunately fox and warner are doing this crap now as well!
the artwork is extremely vulnerable! i have just received
the international and he`s just not that into you via mail and both
artworks had dents in them. that was bound to happen sooner or later.
also my copy of quantum of solace is practically unwatchable;
it has an unbalance, which when played, makes my dvd player sound
like it will blow up any second. i don`t know if this unbalance was caused
by the disc being bent during transport, because of the new eco case,
which gives much less protection, but it is certainly frustrating.
did anyone else have that problem with quantum??

Re: Sony's New DVD Cases - Horrible Idea
since my last girlfriend kept my underworld evolution dvd, i rebought it and
my new copy already comes in one of those eco-cases as well!
so even older reprint titles are now receiving this dumb eco-case treatment!

I got The Iron Giant out of WalMart's $5 bin last week, and it comes in one of these eco-cases. These cases do not favor well within the dump bin, so it took inspection of many coipies to finally find one that wasn't mangled.

I finally got my first one of these cases today with Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II. After having to go put my first one back because of puncture holes in the back of the insert, I had to inspect the rest and find one that was OK.
Got it home and the first thing I did was put it in a regular Amaray case.

Re: Sony's New DVD Cases - Horrible Idea
today i received obsessed via mail and was furious again it these eco cases!
the case is so fragile that any pressure leaves dents in the artwork.
in addition the artwork`s paper now has thickness of toilet paper!
the whole set is just asking for damage. way too fragile for online orders!
i just don`t buy that "we want to save the environment" crap from the dvd companies!! they are not greenpeace. stock listed corporations like sony only go by numbers and laws of capitalism.
by cutting slipsleeves for their releases, saving material and logistic costs by the new eco cases and thin artworks, they are just cutting costs and saving money. just a few cents per dvd, but multiply that by the number of units sold and you end up with a nice extra profit.
not like the customer is paying less for these eco cases! their we love the
environment excuse is just a joke and a justification in opinion! i don`t even want to know with how many bad chemicals and plastics the environment is filled with during the physical dvd production.
bottom line, they just want to save costs in a bad economy!!

Re: Sony's New DVD Cases - Horrible Idea
I hate these new flimsy cases. I'll definitely replace them as I can. I hate all this "green" shit, to be honest. Slow hard drives, flimsy DVD cases, NewEgg's lame ass paper packing material tha'ts never actually used to protect the item on all sides, etc.

Re: Sony's New DVD Cases - Horrible Idea
the eco cases however SUCK
besides for me the eco factor is just an excuse to save material and make more money for the studios! i mean they cost the same as before, but have less value to the customer and certainly won`t change the environment with all the other problems which are much worse, than a few dvd cases!!
