Has anyone else purchased the Batman Animated Complete and found that the cases housing the DVDs are damaged beyond repair? And can I replace the cases without returning the whole set for replacement?

I haven't received my set yet, I just ordered it from Deep Discount during their 25% Off Sale. Could you be a bit more specific about what's damaged or perhaps include pictures?

As to your return question, it depends where you bought it. If you bought it through Amazon, then you could keep your existing set while you wait for the replacement set to show up. They are one of the few, if not the only, retailer I know that allows that.

i'm curious to know how exactly your cases were damaged? they're pretty insulated within the outer packaging, so that surprises me.

for what it's worth, i bought mine at best buy and everything was fine.

I too am curious as to how they got damaged, considering they are pretty much surrounded on all sides and don't slide around at all.

I also bought mine at Best Buy and it was fine.

The inside hinges are broken. The artwork is intact. The discs are fine. It's the hinges. The plastic hinge pieces that slide into the spine broke off, so my discs are loose, not hinged to the middle spine. Everything else is fine. Even the case shells are intact. I bought mine at BestBuy also, so I don't know what happened. It seems that the set was jostled too much in shipping.
