I've kicked the slipcover habit...

Thanks to Blu-ray, I've finally cured my addiction to slipcovers. I
probably won't get rid of all the slipcovers I already have, but I'm
much less concerned about whether discs come with them or not. I still
like knowing so that I have a choice, but I'm pretty sure that they'll
get thrown away 9 times out of 10.

The reason I credit Blu-ray is because one of my first Blu-ray titles
was PIXAR's Cars. The standard DVD has a nice metallic slipcover
(embossed, too) with normal cover art underneath. The Blu-ray disc
comes with a plain slipcover, but has nice metallic cover art. It was a
no-brainer to toss the slipcover... why hide the shiny cover? With some
of my other DVDs, I had to remove the slipcovers in order to trade them
in (Superman Returns had one that advertised a bonus disc that I
kept, and Spider-Man 3 had the slipcover for the single-disc
version, and I didn't want to confuse the clerk). This kind of got the
ball rolling, so I don't really covet slipcovers anymore. I'm cured!

Anybody else want to share their story, or agonize over those poor naked
DVDs?

I never cared for them. However, I do keep them (but separated from the discs), in case I want to sell them later.

I too am moving away from Slipcovers because of Blu-Ray. In fact, my entire DVD spending habits have changed since I've gone Blu. I even skipped out on the 3 Disc exclusive of Across the Universe and opted for BR.

I finally broke the nerouses to the surprise of everyone (including myself).

I'm right there with you. I've even made peace with some new "Photoshop" covers when I always used to insist on the original cover art. I kind of realized that the VHS cover of a catalog title isn't necessarily the definitive art for the film. I'm sure there will be covers that make me want to puke, but for some reason it seems that my Blu-ray collection is more about the content and less about the packaging. As you say, I'm probably more surprised than anyone.

Well, having the slipcover won't get you any more if you're trading them in at a retail store, but they can be a great asset if selling to fellow collectors on eBay or Amazon. They're just not worth it to me anymore, though... but there are always exceptions.

Same here. I won't be going Blu anytime soon; I need to get a high def tv first. But if anyone is willing to part with some slipcovers, I am missing a few...
