DVD Insert Question: Have you ever.....
repurchased a movie because the first time you bought it, it came without the insert? I've done it before with Trading Places. I knew it came with one but when I purchased mine, it was empty. So, I ended up saleing off my copy and ended up getting a copy w/insert later on. Maybe I'm being overly picky here, but for some reason I would rather have a chapter list insert than not especially when I know one comes with the movie. Has anybody else done this?

I'm big into replacing full-size Amaray boxes with slimlines (as long as it's the same art on the cover, or better art), and I typically keep the insert from the full-size version in the slimline case. Of course in cases where it's an SE or re-release and the chapter titles (or even number of chapters) has changed, I don't keep it because it's not accurate with regard to the new disc. I also sometimes sacrifice inserts if something comes out in an SE but I want to keep the original box because they dicked around with the artwork for the re-release. In those cases I usually keep the new disc, toss the cover from the slimline because it mentions features not on the old disc, and trade off the old disc in the slimline with the insert used as a cover. That wouldn't work at most chain stores (for reasons such as no barcode, etc.), but the flea market shop I go to doesn't really seem to care.
That said, I really don't see a lot of reason for inserts. You don't really need a chapter list because you can just use the chapter menu on the disc -- a chapter list on an insert is just a holdover from Laserdisc. Of course they're really helpful if they have the same art as the cover and I'd rather not keep the box -- they go nicely in DVD binders that are designed to hold them.

Sadly, I have done this before. Paramount is a big issue, because they discontinued inserts on movies that used to have them, like Trading Places.

Another option might be to ask at your local video store -- even when they re-sell their rental DVDs, they probably won't be too concerned about having the insert still in there.
