Hellsing Ultimate volume 1 Limited Edition. Presumably future LE volumes will also be in steelbooks.

There are also a few special edition video game releases that come in steelbooks. Some include bonus DVDs like Halo 2 and Resident Evil 4.

Steelbooks are pretty nice.

Where can I get that Ong Bak steelbook? Is it still available to buy?

I haven't seen it by itself, but it is bundled with The Protector in a two pack.

To clear some misconception to other members and consumers:

Steelbook VS VIVA Metal Box

Steelbook Sample: Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Viva Metal Box: Dune

Front / Back of the DVD Packaging
- Steelbook has a smooth surface
- Viva Metal Box carries embossed layers and art

Spine and Side of the DVD Packaging

Inner Packaging
- Steelbook has a transparent inner plastic holder
- Viva Metal Box has a greyish metallic inner plastic holder

* Please take note of the arrow drawing as it points out where to locate the Steelbook and VIVA trademarks in the DVD inner packaging

The only steelbooks I have are for The Departed and Appleseed LE and Akira LE. Hellsing Ultimate v1 LE is also in a steelbook but I don't have that yet.

Anyway, I think all this arguing is pretty darn silly and detracts from the thread. Just make it simple- call it a steelbook if the tin is part of the case itself, and call it a tin if it merely holds the case. I'm sure there are many different brands of thinpack cases too but we just call them all thinpacks. Big deal.

xage 02-15-07 10:55 PM

Akira LE is not a steelbook

Lt Ripley 02-15-07 10:58 PM

I like steelbook and Viva because they are the same size as a normal keepcase, and you can read the title on the spine. I had the Akira Tin case, but sold it. I can't remember if it had the title on the spine or not. If not, no steelbook.

Xage, do you happen to have the German steelbook versions of Escape From New York or The Thing (Das Ding)? I would like to see some nice pictures of them if you do.

xage 02-15-07 10:59 PM

Lt Ripley, only R1 steelbooks on my end. I envy those who were in Euro countries as they have an extensive lineup of steelbooks there

Lt Ripley 02-15-07 11:19 PM

No kidding! I like the 12 Monkees steelbook that was just released in Germany also. They need to start issuing more of these in the US.

GoldenJCJ 02-15-07 11:58 PM

Just out of curiosity, how much do Steelbooks cost to produce over a standard case?

I just got my first Steelbook today (The Departed) and I think it's great. Makes me wonder why there's so few. (especially in R1. WTF!)

They are MUCH more expensive than just about any other case. You also have a much longer lead time as they are manufactured in Scandinavia, and you can't buy them "raw". You have to have all the printing and embossing done with them.

That's the reason you see them used much more in Europe - proximity.

We did the Pride Grand Prix set in one and it turned out great, but we had to nearly triple our usual lead time to get it manufactured by street date.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will just have to remain jealous of the European market. I am going to order the steelbook versions of the ALIEN films coming in a few months though.
