My Custom cover's IMAGE HEAVY Help Advice Comments & Critisisms very welcome :)
I thought Since I am starting to post my covers asking for comments, critisisms help and advice I thought I may as well make my own thread (plus my other posts disappeared from the other thread)....So here it is
I'll first post my first few covers, in the order I designed them, and what program I used....then post my latest cover (Street Hawk)
These are for programs that I transferred from Video tape to dvd, I recorded them off the tv over the years and wanted to preserve them as I still watch them, and the tapes are almost dead. I wont be having a video player much longer
Knight Rider using Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker

South Park using Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker

The Simpsons using Photoshop 8 cs

Street Hawk using Photoshop 8 cs

Is "fifthteen" an intentional error?
Does Team America really belong in the South Park set?
I like the DivX logo.
"Not Widescreen"
What else does it say near the barcode? I see "buy nothing day" but what else?

Just thought I'd put that bar code for a laugh
Ummmm.... OOPS no 'fifthteen' (fifteen) isnt an intentional error, well spotted thanks

I got that DivX logo by doing a google
gI got a few more as well, but thought that one was more fitting.UMMM no, Team America doesnt really belong in the south park set. But I thought why not, so I converted my dvd of it to go with it (since it was made by the creator's of South Park of coarse) Is that a good excuse

Nope, it's not a good excuse, but hey, they're your covers.
One other comment I would have is that, I would keep the aspect ratio of your images. The Knight Rider pic as well as the Simpsons group shot both seem stretched vertically. That's a big no-no to me.

I know there stretched, I couldnt find one the right size they were all quite small pictures, so quite a lot of them have been stretched one way or the other.
I cant seem to find a way of keeping there original ratio, any help on that would be appriciated

Does anyone know of the best way to keep the aspect ratio of the images that I use??
I use photoshop 8 cs all the time now.
Also I'd like to know how to create the boxe's for the: region, running time, sound modes, etc....to go in?? (the boxe's usually found at the bottom of the case at the back)??
Where could I get some higher res pic's?
Any help would be greatly appriciated

If you use the transform command (in photoshop) you can make the image/s any size you want.
As I have recently learned if you want to keep the aspect ratio of the image, hold down the shift key before you start dragging the image to resize it.
I'm only just learning how to use this program my self, so I hope this helps
Another tip for saving ink is once you have the image created just lighten the whole thing ever so slightly, I have used this trick a couple of times and it seems to work fine for me.

The shift key only keeps proper transform aspect if dragging from one of the object's corners. Holding shift and dragging from the left, right, top or bottom edges may cause unproportionate stretching.

Ric Easton :
Sure, when I can find it again lol (if I cant find it I could always e mail it to you if you like, let me know
)
Disc-Flipper :
Yep I found that out, so I only drag from the corners if I want to keep the aspect ratio now.
I'm currently trying to learn as much as I can (specifically for designing covers at the moment) with photoshop.
I have quite a few logo's age certifications etc....All advice links to other places that would help would still be greatly appriciated
I am looking at dagons den at the moment too, and trying to look for places to get higher res pics etc....

I have just finished my first X Files Cover
I thought I'd start doing covers for my X Files seasons, as I bought the m-lock versions and they comprise of a cardboard outer case and four double amaray cases. I bought 9 six disc cases to store each season in (6 discs in the case properly and the 7th disc in a wallet) I made these cases as it holds back on storage space on my shelves, and the original cases are stored in a cupboard.
I have been inspired by the original box art as well as some of the designs that other members have put on here.
Please comment, critisise and advise. This is my 10th ever cover, and was made using Photoshop 8 cs

This is a re make of season one (which I prefer):

And here is season 2

As you may have noticed I have a picture building up on the spine. I used multiple pictures for this blended them in, in a seperate doc, then split it into 9 to form my spine pic It's the first time I have tried that, and they seem to match up fine

Just thought I'd do a quick one for "Hulk" when awaiting some high rez images for X Files

Done a bit of blending in this one, unfortunately the images are not very high rez but I tried.
Please let me know when I come up with a cover for anything worthy for uploading to this site, it would be an honour

Thanks, I never thought I'd get a reaction like that. I've only just started designing my own covers over the past couple of weeks, I think I still have a lot of room for improvement

I got all my advice and tutorials from here and Dagonsden.com
The rest I just taught myself

I subscribed to dagons den cover assets to get some higher rez images. I also have a three different versions of a Spawn snapper case conversion to amaray. I have entered that in a competition though and cant post it here yet.
