Universal Monsters
Hi everyone.
It seems to me some GREAT customs could be made for the Universal Monsters Legacy sets.
There's so much brilliant vintage poster art for these films. So many Basil Gogos painted portraits of these characters on the back issues of Famous Monsters, etc.
And face it, the muddy green paper covers kinda' suck like the Count.
Is anyone working on this?
If you've seen Nausicaa's Hitchcock covers at the Den, you'll see just how classic poster art can make a DVD cover look old and new at the same time.
Just wondering...and if so, sign me up, fellow Monster lovers.

This was one of those sets that I really took a bath on. I never picked up the original series when I could have and then the next thing I knew they were all OOP. After painstakingly hunting down the entire original set for way more than I wanted to pay for them, the announcement drops at DVDTalk that they are all being reissued in these new Legacy set versions for a very reasonably price. God that sucked. I coughed up a few hundred bucks all told and literally a week later I find out that they would soon be re-released for about a quarter of what I had just paid. Plus to make matters worse, the new sets would include the last of the Dracula series (House of Dracula) and all the Creature and Invisible Man sequels that weren't available in the original Classic Monster set. I just couldn't bring myself to sell them all off at a massive loss and rebuy all the new ones. That would be admitting defeat. So I decided to keep them all and bought the Dracula, Invisible Man, and Creature Legacy sets instead. I cannibalized the discs with the sequels on them and opted to make custom "triple feature" covers that match the old series of "double feature" covers. Then I just traded away the extra discs I no longer needed. If I can find some original artwork I'll whip up new custom covers for the Invisible Man and Creature sequels to go with the one I already did for Dracula's Daughter/Son of Dracula/House of Dracula and all will be right with the world again. Obsessive? Yes, a bit.
