i also work at a blockbuster and when we get all of our new movies in, we take the dvd inserts out of the cases. This saves alot of space. Then we just throw away the brand spankin new dvd cases. I take alot of them home just in case. Ive also had many customers come in asking if we have any leftover cases. If we do we give them as much as they can carry. like said before...saves us a trip to the dumpster :P

After reading these messages, I called a number of my local 'Blockbusters" and 'Hollywood Video'.
I was informed that they do not receive the DVDs in "Street" cases but that they receive them in the "Store Rental" heavy duty cases.
I know that a few of the local "BB" stores sell their used DVDs in paper sleeves, or clear 'plastic' style cases.

If you ever loan movies to friends, put them in the pink cases. I'll bet they always come back.

HAHA! You got a point, i think they would return. Just be worried if it was returned with a regular black case!!!!!! and in regards to dec29111 response, we do recieve some of the new releases in our rental boxes, but along with the rental boxes, we also get the original street boxes. How else to they get the cover boxes up there
We recieve just as many street boxes as we do the movies in the rental boxes, the blockbuster you went to is probably run by flakes lol.....Keep trying, if you have more then one BB around you, chances are you'll run into one with some empty boxes

OK, so the two Blockbusters around me say they don't give 'em out. Whats the best time to do "the dive?" BBV closes at midnight, but I imagine employs stay there for another half-hour or so. We're talking 1am here?
When have you all done "the dive?"

i never really have to do the dive, i just take em cause i work there. Those people working at the BB near you must be snobby, most BB's dont mind giving em out, i know mine and my brothers BB dont mind.

They both gave me some spiel about corporate policy, and how not even the employees were allowed to take home stuff.
So I went ahead and tried last night anyways. My first class wasn't until 11am this morning, so around 1am I drove to the local BBV. One bag of cases also had a cup of coffee thrown in with it, so all those were ruined. But I was able to snag about 20 from another clean bag. I inspected them all on-site and threw the covers into a brand new trash bag I brought.
No 2-discs, but they all are real-deal Amaray branded cases. Only 1 insert (TCM). All in all, worth it.

awesome, so you took the dive huh? Well, it is worth it, they throw away perfectly good cases, BB should sell their empty cases to online merchants or sumptin, but that would make sense, which is why BB doesnt do it lol

First dumpster score!!
I didn't have to dive in (thankfully) they were sitting right on top for me - A heavenly beam of light shining on them.
The good part is as I pulled up to BBV, I saw the guy taking the bags out. So now I know - Wed at noon - dvd cases sitting on top of dumpster. Too bad their wasn't any double amarays this wk.
Still, what a rush!
