Zaius Custom Covers

Working on a custom Superman cover. Yes I know there are plenty already, and they look great, I just wanted to throw one of mine into the mix.

Not done yet, but here's a preview:

Any thoughts?

Nice cover Dr. Zaius.

If you have any plans on making II, III, and IV in the same style I'd gladly use your's and dump the current two snapper scans I currently use.

Yeah, there are others, they look nice, but none of them until I saw this made me want to spend four bucks to get it from dvdcoverart.com. This is one I would buy!

Thanks everyone!

I hope to get the cover finished soon. I'd also be interested in doing one for Superman II and possibly II & IV. Does anyone have a hi res copy of the original or concept poster art for II? I'd like to go for something other than what's on the front of the snapper case.

Looks great Dr. Zaius!!!! I hope you do covers from II through IV ... I've seen some great covers for I and II, but III and IV always get ignored. (Yes... I own them both... I can't stand not having a complete collection... even though III was passible and IV sucked cheese... snicker)

I've done some spine run-ons myself but never thought to flip the image like that. Neat trick. An eye catcher indeed. Choice is a good thing, there's always room for one more.

Looks awesome, but could you stretch the title on the spine to make it a little bigger? And please, please, please make matching covers for II and III.

The finished cover is now up:

http://www.spleenworld.com/coverart/

It actually didn't change much from the first post, just needed to get a few finishing touches done on it.

Its now also available at dvdcoverart.com.

Yes, assuming I can find decent enough elements, I'll be doing covers for II through IV.

Dr. Zaius,

I saw your cover for Planet of the Apes. I was wondering if I could borrow the front cover for an upcoming custom.

I'm not sure about that features box. It just looks a tad 'off.' I'm not sure why. It is too bold of a color for the color scheme on the back. Maybe if you drop the opacity a little it will blend in more. Also, I think it should either be smaller(width) or go all the way to the spine. That black space in between the two doesn't work.

The THX logo on the spine(2nd cover). There should be a different version around that is black, that way you don't have to use the white logo with the black box around it.

I do like how you used the L, F and the P from the logo in the 'special features' text. Nice.

Lastly, this may be personal preference, but I HATE banners. Maybe drop the black box behind the THX Digitally Mastered text. The black box detracts your eye from the artwork, which is the real focus.

I do like the second one better. The first just has too much text on the front.

I like the second one better as well. I agree with Michael about the Special Features box. Maybe if instead of red, use a sand tone from the front cover...it may blend in better.

CanadianKnight,

I had started on the cover for Sperman II, but am still in need of a high res poster image. I'm looking for something other than the standard shot used on the snapper case. Something like the one below, or Bob Peak art, if ther was any ever made.

If anyone can direct me to a good resource for something like this, I'd be grateful.
