Wow, I wander off for a few days and and BOOM, all sorts of craziness starts goin' on. Everything is fine, my "emergency" just had me running around away from my computer more than I normally am. Lots of driving and not enough atrophying in front of the computer.

I'll definitely be finishing up those other POTA covers, the crazy purple one, [which I think is from a Polish poster design] and one featuring the classic international art.

I'll also be continuing the Trek 2 disc covers as they come out.

I've also got about half a dozen miscellaneous covers in varoius stages of completion, and just need to lock myself in a room and just finish them up. Hopefully That'll be sooner than later.

And as far as the printer paper discussion goes (if anyone cares), its been a little while since I last printed a cover but I found the EPSON Premium Glossy Photo Paper to work well.

rect 02-24-04 09:33 PM

i've been using Epson Glossy Photo Paper. it's $20 at costco for 120 sheets and the results are awesome on my canon i860.

ivelostr2, what type of printer and brand of paper do you use? the image program should be fine for printing them out.

printer is a lexmark z605
paper is jetprint photo glossy finish paper

Iknow the printer is lowend, that is probably why it looks like it does...

What a great forum & thread! Serendipity strikes at last! :-)

I'm just starting to collect cover art, and lately I'm concentrating on scanning and retouching all my originals so I can thin-down all my cases (not enough room on the shelves). But your custom covers are unbelievable! I've thought about making some, but I just don't have the time right now for that kind of creativity. :-(

I'm very happy to learn about the VLC player since PowerDVD screenshots just don't cut the mustard, but I'm looking for fonts to match the originals to fix poor scans or dl's. I've found plenty of text fonts (~800) but what about all the icons? Is there a font of DVD-type icons, like Closed-Caption, Dolby Digital, MPAA, region codes, rating boxes, and the "DVD Video" icon? How about the studio logos (New Line, Paramount, Universal, etc.)? And is there a free UPC generator anywhere? I'd just like to have clean, easy, scalable icons instead of grainy scans.

BTW - As to the question raised earlier in the thread about disk size: My Epson R300 recommends printing standard CDs/DVDs at 40mm ID & 118mm OD, which is about 2800x2800@600dpi. Hub-printable discs' ID is about 22mm.

Dvd Covers

I have searched for dvd covers, and I must say, yours are the best on the net. However, you need to put some new ones on there. What size are these pics and at was resolution? I tried dvdcovers.com, but their pics are WAY TOO SMALL and come out all pixelated! :( any other site you can recommend?

Dagon 04-13-04 07:19 PM

Steve83, check out my site (link in signature) for some studio "templates" (in PSD format) and a few logos, more logos can be found at brandsoftheworld.com or via some of the links in the Links section on my site. DVDCoverart.com also has a few generic templates for sizing purposes and a nice logo collection (in ZIP format).

Ziaus, I'd be interested in hearing a bit more of the VLC Media Player as well. Sounds to me like the quality beats PowerDVD and/or ripping the frames straight from the VOB's (which I've been known to do on occasion).

aTp 04-23-04 01:00 PM

Dr Zaius - where do you get the logo art for the covers and what type are they ?

I downloaded some EPS files but I use coreldraw and corel paint and besides looking crappy sometimes they crash my programme.

I'd prefer jpg but bmp or gif would do.

aTp 04-23-04 01:04 PM

Ahhhhhhhhhhh just saw the post above - ermmmmmmmmmmm.

aTp 04-23-04 01:39 PM

Dagon - I checked out the logos.zip download from DVDCOVERART.COM - those are the ones I d/loaded and they are the EPS files that I cant use.

Same with brandsoftheworld.com

I've just joined the den but i dont think i can use your files either.

Hi Doc I was wondering if there is any POTA covers for the new movie that you have done and could you please make a single case for the Star Trek Next Generation so I that I can use it to have all seven discs in it that would be awesome mate!

Great work and I look forward to seeing some more!

XR8FalconSBR 05-09-04 09:02 AM

Sorry should have been more helpful with the star trek. I am after a set of seven individual case for the season one next generation. I love the ones you did but I dont have the 7 case to put mine in.

All the same with the numbers on the spine would be cool, so they can be told apart.

I bought my original dvds from a sale where they where $30 brand new but the case and books where not there just the dvds alone, so I need something to put them all in!

Thanks again my hairy friend!

Dr. Z

Love your covers, will you be making one for the Indiana Jones bonus disk?

XR8FalconSBR 05-15-04 09:02 PM

Thanks again Doc, but I never realized that the Star Trek covers for the next generation where not made by you! I just put the image into photoshop and then cut out bits and pieces to make the cover fit the normal size dvd case and it looks awesome!

Still I would love to know if there is a cover being made for POTA the marky Mark version and the Indiana Jones bonus disc as well, you are truly gifted in what you do.

Thank you for making your great covers available to all of us!

Hey Doc,

Just like to say that I LOVE your custom covers.
One problem, can't download either Ocean's 11
or the POTA covers.
By the way, if you should happen to get around to it,
is there a possibility that you could make a cover
for the following using the original poster art?
Great Escape 2 disk SE
Good Bad Ugly 2 disk SE

Thanks for the great covers,

looking forward to what else you come up with.

**REQUEST**

Hey All!

I am looking for 2 things:

#1

I am looking on the net for a jpg , or even better a PSD document that contains JUST the DVD stats box that you see on the bottom back cover of some DVD's

The one on the back of Dr. Zeus' 12 Monkeys Box looks ideal!

I am looking for a generic template for one with the proper measurments so I can use it and over and over, switch the colors, add my own words to it, etc,etc

#2

I don't know where I got, but I have a great PSD document called "CTS Template". It is a PSD document with about 20 or so layers. It LOOKS GREAT! You can turn each layer on and off for added effects, etc, etc.

My version of Adobe is missing the "SPECIAL EDITION" font to make more similar words look like that font.

Anyone have it?

Anyone have any other kind of templates like this?

Before anyone flames me, I didn't look to see if there is a similar topic. Just working on a project and thought this would be a great last minute touch

Can you help in any way?

Thank you!

Rammsteinfan 08-26-04 09:55 AM

He hasnt posted since something like Feb. He either dropped off the planet, was abducted by aliens, or got a real life and is doing better things? I dunno, but I hope its all good and he comes back someday. I sent emails and never heard back, anyone else contact him?

joliom 09-20-04 12:39 PM

XR8FalconSBR, I have a custom cover for the 2-Disc Tron if you're interested. I have it in both single-sized and double-sized versions which ever you prefer. Let me know if you want it.

I'm Back

Hello all, I am indeed alive!

There's nothing quite like being called by a studio's legal department to put the fear in you. After sitting on the sidelines for a while, I've decided to start putting out covers again, although Fox-related covers are off the list. I figure that finishing the Trek series would be a good start.

Any requests?

Dr. Z

Rogue588 12-23-04 11:09 AM

Welcome back, Doc

GaryEA 12-23-04 01:48 PM

He lives! Welcome back Doctor. Sorry to hear about the legal wrangling (and the loss of some covers), and my fingers are crossed it never happens again, for your peace of mind).

My only request is if you could finish the Superman series, if you're still interested, and maybe do that Indy bonus disc you had mentioned on your site. :)

Take care, and happy holidays!

Randy810 12-28-04 04:50 PM

WELCOME BAck
You were missed.

Randy

Rammsteinfan 12-30-04 10:47 AM

Yea! He's back... Ive been trying to carry on the legacy of the ST covers you have started which I love... hopefully you can come up with something awesome for Generations and First Contact now that the specs are out.

Per my thread HERE [viewed by 81 with only 1 response], it'd be great if you could do a set of Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki covers..

OR... :D

Rammsteinfan 01-30-05 05:23 PM

Hows the work going Dr.? Any updates soon?

Dr. Zaius 01-31-05 07:38 AM

I'm pretty close with my Star Trek: Generations and Indiana Jones Bonus Disc covers. Superman II and IV are proving more difficult as I want to match the front art style of 1 and 2, but am having trouble finding anything suitable.

Rogue588, is there one particular film from your list you'd prefer most?

DarkGryphon 01-31-05 10:36 AM

I see 4 covers of yours which have the UPC (the Indiana Jones series doesn't need them). So, if you'd be as so kind as to provide alternate covers with being the only difference is that the UPC code is actually on the cover, that'd be most appreciated from me. Other than that, the covers are excellent and are very appealing to the eye.

crimsonguard 02-15-05 07:01 PM

Tron DVD Cover

Doc,

Love the covers featured on your own site. Do have a question though. . . as Tron is a Disney property and they've been responsible for shutting down another site due to (alleged) copyright infirngement, does that mean you will not be releasing your own version of the DVD cover?

On another subject, I hope somebody will eventually convert a Matrix Revisited cover. Please?

Mike
