Man there are so many good Indy covers that I don't know which set I wanna use. I was going to use Scara's but he hasn't updated with any new ones for a week.

Ric Easton 10-26-03 09:33 AM

Wow, really really nice! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

Temple of Doom should be ready sometime tonight...

Dr. Zaius 10-29-03 12:37 AM

The Temple of Doom cover is now available .

alex4bball 12-24-03 05:09 PM

I quickly looked through the thread and unless I missed it, I didn't see any mention of the sizes for printing DVD covers. If you could provide me with the following it would be very much appreciated:

Size in Pixels
" Inches
" Centimeters
...and DPI

I think CENTIMETERS is most exact. Am I right in saying this?

Dr. Zaius 12-28-03 09:42 PM

The cover dimensions are as follows:

3240 x 2175 pixels
10.8 x 7.25 inches
27.43 x 18.42 cm

300 dpi

I prefer to go by pixels, in terms of measurement, making sure that it's set to 300 dpi.

alex4bball 12-29-03 08:45 AM

Thank you for getting back to me. Whenever I resize an image I always change the DPI to 300. I will start resizing using Pixels instead of inches. Do you happen to know the dimensions for CD prints, such as front, back, inlay, cd? Thanks for your help! One more thing, I love what you are doing with DVD covers, just wish you had a larger collection! Keep up the great work!

Dr. Zaius 12-29-03 10:25 AM

I haven't done cd designs before, so I'll see what I can figure out, in terms of the exact dimensions.

In regards to the the covers, I have a whole bunch I've been working on, and am close to finishing quite a few pretty soon. The DTS Jaws Cover is ready, and I just have a few modifications to make for the standard Dolby Digital version.

I'll soon be setting up a sister site to my current one which should be a bit faster and better arranged, with a bit more info into the making of the covers themselves.

alex4bball 12-29-03 12:57 PM

If you don't mind, I would like to start making covers as well. Anyway you can teach me some tricks and get me started? Do you take requests for covers?

blindrocket 12-29-03 11:05 PM

Great work Dr. Zaius.

I really like what you've done.

Perhaps you should put up a very small FAQ on your site about printing, because alex4bball asked a question I was thinking about myself. :D

CanadianKnight 01-19-04 09:18 AM

Hey Doc! Just wanted to ask if you were going to be doing a cover for Star Trek VI? Hope so! :D Have all your other Trek covers printed out....they are awesome! :D

Dr. Zaius 01-19-04 12:41 PM

Yep, I am indeed doing covers for Trek VI. In fact, they should be done pretty soon.

quadroupled 01-21-04 05:17 AM

Hi There.

I'm not one to usually post anything on a forum, but after stumbling upon your site recently, I couldn't resist.....

Dr. Zauis, you deserve much praise for creating such excellent alternatives to the streamlined and lackluster artwork that is available for many big budget dvd releases. It's always slightly disappointing to purchase wonderfully crafted classic films, like "Superman" or "Indiana Jones", that have such little attention paid to honoring the original artwork that presented these great movies to us. It's part of the whole nostolgia trip - isn't it ??

And so, stepping down from my soap box, I just wanted to say "thanks, man." Your covers are very cool, and I can't wait to see what you come up with for "Superman III and IV" and the "Indy" bonus disc. Any possiblity for some cult fav's like "Buckaroo Banzai" or the "Bill and Ted" flicks?

Dr. Zaius 01-21-04 11:45 AM

Thanks very much!

I had previously planned on doing a cover for Buckaroo Banzai, but had found it very difficult finding suitable quality poster artwork. If you can find any, let me know and I'll definately do it.

Steve C 01-21-04 12:55 PM

Dr Zaius - thats awesome man. Do you take requests??? =D

Dr. Zaius 01-21-04 05:46 PM

I try to take requests, but I find that it often times takes me forever to get some key covers done, let-alone the requested ones. It also depends on if I can find enough resources to make a decent cover.

I'd be happy to see what I can do for you.

What were you looking for?

Ric Easton 01-25-04 12:41 PM

Hiya Doc!

I just picked up ST:6 and I can't wait til I can put it in a brand new case with your cover!

Ric

JoeyOhhhh 01-25-04 12:43 PM

Hey Dr. Zaius,

Any plans on updating your POTA cover to reflect the 2 disc set coming out next Tuesday?

(Add obligatory request for Superman III and IV here :D)

Dr. Zaius 01-25-04 10:34 PM

The cover for Trek 6 is ready and waiting:
http://www.spleenworld.com/coverart/..._VI_medium.jpg

As for POTA: SE, I'll have a newer cover for the upcoming release. And I'll breakdown and finish Supes III and IV.

Ric Easton 01-26-04 07:58 AM

Stunning job as always! And thanks for putting the title back in the explosion where it belongs! Also another great job on the back. Are you using screen caps for your images? How do you get them looking so good?

Ric

Dr. Zaius 01-26-04 10:14 AM

Thanks Ric. Yes those are screenshots from the previous DVD release of Trek 6. I get screenshots using VLC media player . I take them at the largest size possible. My resolution is 1600x1200, and so I usually end up scaling down the elements from the screenshots. This helps maximize the quality of the graphics. A tad bit of sharpening in Photoshop and you've got some decent screencaps.

Fan-flippin'-tastic!

I do have one slight problem [and I really don't know why it bothers me...].

On the back cover, Kirk & Spock both have their mouths closed. However, McCoy's is open.

I have NO idea why this bugged me, but it does. However, this is STILL a GREAT cover! [And just in time for the STVI:CE :)]

GaryEA 01-26-04 04:12 PM

The ST VI cover looks fantastic, Doc. Bravo!

Also, your new covers site is great. Good luck with it! :)

The first cover for the new Apes 35th Anniversary release is now up:

http://www.spleenworld.com/coverart/...a_se_small.jpg

I'll be putting up alternate versions with two other poster art variants.

sotie 02-03-04 11:38 AM

Thanks for the POTA cover. Can't wait to see what the other two look like! Can you provide a preview?

Dr. Zaius 02-04-04 09:53 AM

I'll see about getting previews for the other two tonight. It'll probably be late in the evening, though.

Any specific requests regarding the other two covers?

sotie 02-04-04 11:16 AM

Could you make a single case sized version?

JoeyOhhhh 02-04-04 12:12 PM

Single size case size is preferred here.

I didn't even realize that the one you posted was for an Alpha.

Look foward to seeing what you come up with.

Also, any chance of a Alien cover reflecting the new release?

Dr. Zaius 02-05-04 12:04 AM

Well, I didn't get as far as I wanted to tonight on the other two, so it looks like it's going to be more like tomorrow...

The first cover is actually sized for single/Double Amaray cases, not Double Alpha. That was a silly typo.

I plan on getting the Alien Series done, although that going take a little time.

Dr. Zaius 02-05-04 11:20 PM

Here's the front of one of the two upcoming alternate versions of the Apes SE discs. I'm still mulling over whether I'm gonna do different backs for the two new ones.

http://www.dvdcoverz.com/images/planet_apes_a.jpg

Any poster preference for the other one?

cyeingst 02-08-04 02:38 PM

Planet of the Apes Cover

If your looking for input, I think a 35th anniversary version of the Planet of the Apes (Version A) cover that you previously did would be nice. That is the one using the international poster art.

JoeyOhhhh 02-18-04 10:26 PM

Hey Dr. Zaius what happened with the other versions of POTA you had in store.

BTW, that purple POTA cover freaked me out.

Dr. Zaius 02-21-04 04:09 PM

Had a bit of a family emergency to deal with. Nothing life, or death, but enough to delay me on a great many things. I'm hoping to find time this evening and tomorrow to finish them up...

RaynMan2019 02-21-04 04:27 PM

Doc,

Any plans for the rest of the 2-Disc sets of the Star Trek movies?
I hope everything was okay... The emergency, I mean, I hope everything is ok...

JoeyOhhhh 02-21-04 04:34 PM

Hope everything with the family is ok Dr. Zaius

RaynMan2019 02-22-04 06:35 PM

Doc, I need some help with the personal hostility I'm getting in the forum. It's hard to be nice and constructive when EVERYONE besides Icon769 and some few peeps who are nice to me. I'm just trying to be unique and I HATE being mean. It's very unbecoming of me.

Oh boo ****ing hoo. You've gone out of your way to be an irritation on this board, so don't be surprised by the reaction that you get. In fact, I'd be willing to bet it's exactly what you want.

You're currently clogging the first page of the DVD area by trying to have the most recent post on all the threads. You wit and wisdom consists of one-word posts just to pad your count.

Good job on going from interesting to banned in a record amount of time. You will not be missed.

Why not just be yourself. Why do you have to be unique? If you're trying to be something you're not, many folks in here will sense it and not take you seriously...or just ignore you completely. There are a high number of extremely intelligent people who post in here. This "routine" you have going is easily seen through.

You seem like a nice kid. Very eager and inquisitive about movies and DVDs and technology and other things. Just be yourself and stop trying so hard to be "unique"; it's just pissing people off.

HiroshiTakamura 02-22-04 07:38 PM

Commander, what paper would you recommend for printing DVD's? Glossy or matte finish? Brightness.
When I go to Office Max I won't want to waste my money...
:)

ivelostr2 02-23-04 12:58 AM

question guys, I have never printed these before. I just tried using photo paper, and the writing is a little blurry. I downloaded it and printed from my photo shop (the one that came with my cpu), is that why, do i need a better photo shop, a better printer, or am i doing something wrong?
