Best packaging???
What is everybody's opinion for best packaging? My vote goes to Tombstone VS, but Fight Club is very nice as well. The upcoming LOTR, however, looks very sweet as well.
|
yea, my vote would go to fight club too.
|
I like the Jurassic Park and Lost World Delux edition. Of course you need add an addition to your house to store it, though.

Fight Club
Moulin Rouge Pearl Harbor VS |
Best/Worst DVD packaging
I've seen great DVD packages, I've seen lousy DVD packages. Now, I'm talking specifically about the container, everything except the actual contents of the DVD.
Fight Club SE was my fav until I got the Memento SE. Holy CRAP! The papers paperclipped to the front board were sweet. Excellent presentation. And worst?? Forrest Gump SE. Jeezus, could it be any duller? The dual clamshell case was better than the single clamshell with second disk floating thing (like LOTR, Spiderman, etc). Jeez, they could have jazzed it up a bit. And the most annoying was the frigging paper with the discount on a box of chocolates. |
Actually here is a vote for the ultimate worst EVER
Back To The Future Box Set has now been repackaged here and the 3 dvd's are sitting on top of each other, so to get the 3rd movie you have to take off 1 and 2 :( |
My vote goes for the R1 Edition of E.T.( 2Discs) worst in my collection.
|
I snagged the LotR extended edition tonight at Blockbuster, and damn, this may very well be the classiest packaging ever.
Other favorites: Fight Club, Memento LE, Se7en Platinum Ed., Pearl Harbor Vista (certainly the most elaborate), and Audition. That one in particular surprised me, since it's a small, fairly unknown foriegn film. |
Memento is a bitch to pull the dvd case out of the sleeve. T2 metal case was probably the coolest just cuz it stands out.
Terrible case... my limited edition total recall is pretty annoying. If i lost the cheap and flimsy cardboard bottom, i'd just have a weird round red tin out of place |
Best I'd have to say Band of Brothers. Though I do have one reservation about it in that you have to unfold all the disks to get to the first disk.
Worse-- Tie between the following: Basic Instinct Clear case Though the Basic Instinct had some close contenders with these dogs: Total recall LE Tin Candy LE Tin Also, a lot of people mentioned the Fight Club SE. I bought 2 of these and have had problems with loose or broken hubs on both of them. |
E.T. dvd should be named the Award For Worst Dvd Cover like baseball's Cy Young Award.
|
I think the Alien legacy box looks pretty cool.
|
Nobody have mentioned the Tombstone: Vista Series packaging. It has one of the greatest cover arts. Sixth Sense is also good but not as good as Tombstone. So with Fight Club, Seven and Memento, I think we must count Tombstone in the list. Worse packaging....? I don't have any I guess...
Ah by the way X-Men packaing is also great. |
The worst I've got is Repo Man tin. I put the DVD in an empty case so I could put it with the rest of the DVDs. Now I have an unlabelled CD in the CD rack and an unlabelled DVD in the DVD rack and a tin box in some closet.
I don't have a particular best. I like the plain Amaray cases because I don't like the packaging to get between me and my movie. |
Worst:
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Legend: Ultimate Edition Evil Dead II - Tin. Has a CD Jewell case inside the tin! Grrr... Best Fight Club Tombstone: SE Brazil: CC The new Lord Of The Rings: Extended Edition packaging looks really nice too. |
Worst: Grease
Best: E.T. Ultimate Gift Box |
ET would be ther worst I own simply because there's nothing on the spin.
I guess T2:UE would be best, because the package is nice, metal, and still gets the job done. |
Fight Club,Seven,Brazil:CC,T2 UE,are some of the best.
Worst CEOTTK,Panic Room,E.T., basically almost anything that's in one of those cardboard slip cases. |
Worst: ET [2-disc]
Best: T2 - Ultimate Edition |
Worst: ET (2 Disc), Panic Room SB, Total Recall Baboon Tin
Best: Vista Series, T2 UE, Sopranos, Fincher SEs |
Although I haven't recieved it from amazon.ca yet (maybe by Saturday!), I went to the mall and fiddled around with the Band of Brothers case, and it just might be the best packaging I've ever seen. Only rivaled by the very classy Akira tin.
As for worst packaging, anything paper is bad. That include Fight Club and Se7en. I can't stand paper packaging because no matter how carefully you handle it, the edges will invariably dull and the sides will end up fraying. It's already pretty bad on my Fight Club DVD. But even worse than paper packaging is Total Recall: SE. What an abomination. If you lost the cardboard packaging that holds the case upright, then you're pretty much screwed because the case is just an orange cylindrical turd that rolls around on your shelf. |
Best: T2
Tombstone Pearl Harbor Worst: Panic Room ( Flimsey packaging) Total Recall ( Round tin wont stay in top of box when you pick it up and keeps falling out) |
Hmm. I have to disagree with all the T2 votes. While the sleeve looks cool, it doesn't hold the dvd case, there should have been a bottom to it.
I have to agree with the memento sentiments above, that disc is a b*tch to get out of the sleeve. Best: My favorites are still the X-Files seasons. Pearl Harbor: Vista is cool. And I haven't seen the LOTR:EE yet but that should be cool. Worst: Any DVD in a snapper. I hate those! |
The worst is definitely the original packaging for The Usual Suspects. It was terrible. Almost impossible to get the DVD out or put it back in without scratching it.
|
Worst: Universals "Ultimate" packaging.. same as the ET case I think except I don't have ET. Simply the worst ever.
Best.. standard keepcases. :D |
