No, the poster is confused with Moore's "The Big One," which has aired a number of times on IFC in recent months. I think this was mentioned in another thread that was discussing the release of "The Big One" on DVD as well as talking about "Fahrenheit 9/11."

I *think* this was intended as a joke. Still, given the intense feelings that often arise when Moore is discussed, I'd ask that you, and others in this thread, abstain from further comments of this nature.

I hope they don't delay this. I was gonna see it in the theater, but I'm behind enough on movies as it is (still need to see Bourne, Anchorman, and more) and was just gonna wait for DVD since it was coming out so soon. I totally agree, though, regardless of who becomes President, this movie will lose a lot of its effectiveness if it's released after November.

I think the fairest thing to do is to release it on election Tuesday. That way, no one can complain that DVD sales of the movie will influence the voters. But there are those that already made up their minds already.

I think that's the best idea. That way at least Miramax could say that they didn't try to influence the vote. And if Bush wins, Moore can complain that he tried to release the DVD earlier.

The wink indicates the joke, aimed at those who think such comments represent valid criticism of the film. But fair enough. :)

Why not buy Orwell Rolls In His Grave to hold you over?I highly recommend it if you liked F 9/11, this takes a look at the Media and how it works here,I wish everyone would see this:

http://www.buzzflash.com/premiums/04/05/pre04014.html

It was made before F 9/11

On a side note...

is michael moore going to be as rich as Mel Gibson now? I mean, he had a movie which only cost $10 mil to make and only a bit more to market, and he bought it back from Disney with the help of the Weinsteins, but I'm sure he got a great deal out of it, right? Then when the dvd comes out, he's gotta be able to negotiate an even sweeter deal. Hell, maybe he'll be able to fund the next election's campaign!

Maybe in 2008 it will be Mel Gibson vs. Michael Moore?

Actually, the deal hasn't closed yet and Carlyle is not buying it all, nor is it buying it alone.

A press release:

June 23- Onex Corporation (TSX:OCX) announced today that it and Oaktree Capital Management, LLC, its partner in Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corporation and Grupo Cinemex ("Loews"), have reached an agreement to sell the business to a corporation formed by Bain Capital, The Carlyle Group and Spectrum Equity Investors for C$2.0 billion. Onex and Oaktree will retain the Loews interest in Cineplex Galaxy, which operates the Loews theatre business in Canada as well as Galaxy Entertainment and trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol CGX.UN.

Loews is the third largest movie theater chain in the global motion picture exhibition industry, with over 200 theaters and 2,200 screens worldwide. The assets being acquired include Loews' operations in the U.S., Grupo Cinemex, and its 50% interests in Megabox Cineplex of Korea and Yelmo Cineplex of Spain. Onex' share of the cash proceeds is expected to be approximately C$775 million. In addition, Onex will continue to own units of Cineplex Galaxy, which have a current market value of approximately C$105 million.

Miramax is NOT releasing the DVD; they have nothing to do with it. And anyone who wants to make money on this thing better have it out in plenty of time for the election. It will be out Oct. 5.

You probably heard that on Fox News, and it was completely false.

True, but, unlike Gibson, he didn't have that much cash to spare to pay for it himself. So, starting off, Gibson was already way richer.

No, he himself didn't buy it back. I believe that the Weinsteins bought it back and sold the distrib rights to IFC and Sony, but it may have been that the Weinsteins convinced IFC and Sony to buy it off Disney. But Moore himself didn't.

Then when the dvd comes out, he's gotta be able to negotiate an even sweeter deal.
I believe that these deals are covered in the contracts before the film is released. However, in this specific case, that may not be true, as I know the DVD release was up in the air until quite recently.

Dr0Boogie, where are you getting your imformation? It contrasts with what I've been informed.

If you mean the news about Loews, Onex and Carlyle, that press release comes direct from the Carlyle Group web site, as well as research I did on the Dow Jones Newswire.

www.thecarlylegroup.com, do a search for "loews."
