Gothika: Special Edition - Oct. 12, 2004

I have no interest in this title, but here is the info for those who are interested. Why can't studios get it right on the first release?

Further Details
Warner has officially announced Gothika: Special Edition which stars Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz and Robert Downey, Jr. This new two-disc release will be available to own from the 12th October this year, and should retail at around $26.95. As well as an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the disc will include an audio commentary with the director, an On the Set of Gothika documentary, a Painting with Fire featurette, the Behind Blue Eyes music video by Limp Bizkit, a twenty-two minute making of feature on the Behind Blue Eyes music video and the MTV's Punk'd stunt involving Halle Berry at the opening of Gothika. Finally, if menus are your thing, you can expect a CGI enhanced environment based on theatrical set designs including patient drawings, notes, and interviews.

"Painting with fire"?!?!

It has the worst visual effects I've ever seen.

Yes-get it right the first time. I won't buy this as I thought the film was too predictable.

No double-dipping on this one for me.

Of all the DVD in the world to get a SE, they pick this one. Who in there right mind would buy this homemade wannabe of a movie. Yes i did rent this movie. I would have had a better time with a Happy Meal.

It takes years for Warners to release the Goodfellas and Mean Streets SEs, but less than six months for this. Guess we know where their priorities lie.

Indeed. Do it right the first time! Not that I would buy this monstrosity regardless of how they put it together.

I think this is a Warner first... have they double dipped a non-catalogue title??? Meaning, Gothika only came out a few months ago and now, less than a year later, a special edition. Columbia does it all the time, but I don't think warner ever has... hope this isn't a sign of things to come, usually WB gets it right the first time.

I actually liked the movie but not enough to double dip.

It is weird why they take so long on great movies like Goodfellas!

It's rare, but WB did do a similar thing with "On Any Given Sunday". They've also re-released plenty of their early titles, but that's really not the same thing, nor is it what you were talking about. I also hope its not a trend.

I'd hate to do it, but I might have to do the DD. If everything that's on the first shows up on the second, I could get rid of that one. I'd love to have the Punk'd thing on there, only with Ashtons face blurred out & some of his dialogue erased.

You know, it's been a recent trend for studios to rush out and double-dip with SEs on recent titles a few months after release.

There are the LOTR movies, Underworld, the upcoming Hellboy DC, and now this.

Could a reason possibly be that the studios are timing these to openly compete with the used rental copies that flood the market a few months after release?

You know, when BBV starts selling off that freaking huge wall of "Gothika" DVDs, Warners decides to put out a new version to tempt people away from the old ones that they won't see any revenue from?

Theatrical release is a teaser
Initial DVD release is a trailer
Second DVD release is the real deal

Watching the trailer for this movie is good enough for me

I liked the movie Gothika despite a lot of awful reviews, but would I be interested enough in double dipping? Nope. And a twenty two minute 'making of' the limpbizkit Behind Blue Eyes video? I'm a huge huge limpbizkit fan but who the hell needs that. The video was awful.

Hello, and welcome to 2000

Yeah, that's one reason. There's also usually a pricedrop on the initial release...

Perhaps you just need to D.I.S.C.O.V.E.R. L.I.M.P.

My guess is that Catwoman will be hitting DVD at the same time (like it will be in theaters very long), and this is to tie in.

actually saw this the other night when my friend put it on, his wife was out of town for a week, so he could finally watch---she thought it was too "scary."

I didn't think it was THAT BAD...I wasn't looking for Godard, either. It was just a cheap thriller, that was visually interesting and I've always liked Robert Downey Jr.

Of course Mathieu Kassovitz (La Haine) directed this and...well...his first big Hollywood studio film, it was your pretty basic run of the mill crank it out script....Up there with the Crimson Rivers for big budget schlock----though he had no Vincent Cassel and Jean Reno to bail him out here.

I may pick up it for the commentary.

That was my immediate thought, too. Then they can do a promo - buy one, get the other for a dime, or something like that.

The re-release is just to get some higher profile product out from Warner Bros. in time for Halloween. Horror titles sell really well in mid-October.
