The Game Release????

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know if a special edition of "The Game" will be released anytime soon? It's now at $9.99 at most stores and I feel the suction of a double dip drawing me closer into making the studios richer and me more frustrated.

I've been waiting for six years for this title. No word yet. I think there are rights issues with this one. Since every other Fincher film has had a nice SE done, though, I'll continue to wait.

Wasn't there talk of Criterion maybe trying to do an edition of this?

Get it! It's still an incredible movie and $9.99 ain't bad, but I am sure you can get it for mere pennies on eBay.

I think this is what has continually fueled speculation about Criterion putting out a DVD. This is the only Fincher film that hasn't been given a lavish SE release and people keep hoping and wishing (myself included, even though I caved and bought the current release)

The alternate ending is likely to pop up on a future Universal DVD - but Criterion's original produced extras, like commentary tracks and documentaries - well, Criterion is pretty jealous of letting their supplements, which are their bread and butter, fall into the hands of other studios.

They have licensed-out materials in the past, though, if the deal suits them.

Didn't Prior post in another thread that there was work being done on a Game SE?

Not quite... found the quote:

"I've had conversations with Fincher about The Game over the years, just musing about the possibilities really, and nothing firm has been decided. I'm sure it will come up again. It's kind of up to Universal, too."

It's nice to know they're talking about it. You know Fincher would love Prior to do this.... hell, we all would.

C'mon Universal... get off the can!

If Criterion did the Laserdisc, don't they still have the right? Did they lapse or something? Why would they do that?
If any movie deserves a Criterion edition this would be it and would be so awesome. I would love to know or see a new ending to this phenomenal, blew me away movie!!!

I haven't seen it. But I have seen the CC LD go for ~$80 on eBay every time I see it there. It's outrageous.

I'm not aware of a great release of this. The Region 1 is not too good. The UK disc is at least anamorphic.

NBC-Universal-Vivendi now own this Stateside.

Loved the film.

Japan has the NTSC anamorphic disc.

I have the Criterion laserdisc. I think it got it for $10 at the most

So you're the one holding it up! Don't you know they're waiting on you? I'd imagine they have your entire home bugged. Hurry up and buy the current release so they can go ahead on the SE! :P

PAL has better resolution than NTSC, fair enough to point out where an NTSC alternative is available digitalfreaknyc, but surely more people would care about picture than sound?

PAL only has a better picture if you have a PAL tv. It does nothing for those of us who are NTSC.

And to say you care more about picture than sound is interesting. I'm the other way around.

Well. What are you waiting for? Go pick it up so we can all get the inevitable SE announcement next week.
