Is a Criterion Sunrise a possibility?
On Film Forum's site here: http://www.filmforum.com/films/leopard.html , you will note the bold text at the end of the listing - " A CRITERION PICTURES RELEASE OF A 20TH CENTURY FOX FILM."
The Leopard being a film Criterion just released.
On the site here: http://www.filmforum.com/films/murnau.html , you will not the unbolded text at the end of the listing for Sunrise - " A CRITERION PICTURES RELEASE OF A 20TH CENTURY FOX FILM."
Did Criterion acquire the rights to Sunrise? Is a release forthcoming?

Criterion Pictures (a non-theatrical distributor) has no relation to The Criterion Collection. The website of the former:

Besides, I'm quite satisfied with the sort-of release from Fox Studio Classics.

Fox has the rights to SUNRISE,
and their DVD version is already loaded with special features.
I don't see why Criterion would be interested since the FOX disc already looks incredibly good right now.

The DVD is excellent, though, you have to get it off eBay.
Fox shouldn't have made one of the greatest silents a "freebie."
Fox has always kept the film "hidden" from video. The laserdisc only happened because David Shepard (of Blackhawk Films/Film Preservation Associates) offered to produce it.
In Europe, anyone can easily buy the DVD from Eureka... a 2-disc edition, no less.
