I'm torn because, on the one hand, I'd rather he stop re-cutting the films, but, on the other hand, I loved hearing him talk about 'Manhunter' (though he had a lot of dead space). I want to hear his commentary on 'Ali', and the changes sound pretty minor ...
But, yeah, I hope he doesn't mess with 'Heat' ... and I'm glad he didn't touch 'Thief'. (If he wanted to try to fix 'The Keep', though ... maybe that wouldn't be too bad.)
Incidentally, 'Heat' itself was director revisionism. It was the second time Mann filmed that script.

That was my thought as well. I hated Manhunter, pure 80's cheese IMO, like a bad episode of Miami Vice.

My understanding was that 'Heat' was Michael's Mann's BIG script ... which is to say, the one he felt was THE ONE he wanted to get made (though, at first, he didn't want to direct it), even back while making 'Thief' ... but, when he couldn't, he did it as a TV movie (LA Takedown) in a scaled down version. But when he had the opportunity, he made it again, properly.
But, then again, I haven't seen it ... which, again, I had always chalked up to Mann's revisionism, the same way he frowns upon original cuts.

I don't mind the new cut, but the first time I watched the DVD I did find it pretty jarring when the new scenes popped in, as I had seen the movie at least a dozen times by then...
