This has gotten horrible treatment thusfar, and was wondering if they had at least planned on releasing a widescreen version of this on DVD anytime soon.

I periodically send an email to Universal's video department about rereleasing the Jerk... I advise everyone else to do the same. It's probably my favourite comedy of all time... I watch it at least 6 times a year... great flick, would love a widescreen SE.

The current P&S release has been out of print since April, so hopefully that's a sign a new release is coming soon.
I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm guessing an announcement will be made by the end of the year. Fingers crossed...

It would more than likely be The Jerk: Opti-grab Editon or maybe The Jerk: Extra Best Thermos You Can Buy Edition.
Or of course The Jerk: Cup O' Pizza Edition.
This is one of the last movies I have on VHS that I haven't upgraded to DVD yet. (The other is Batman, waiting for the long rumored SE).
But I'll definately buy it if they come out with a Widescreen edition, and it would be great if they included the scenes they show in the TV version, like the guy with the cracking leather seats on his private jet.
Maybe they could make it a real nice set and include a Bull Shit shirt like that little kid wears.
