Top 10 selling DVDs - 1st half of 2004

This is according to www.dvdfile.com:
http://www.dvdfile.com/news/sales_statistics/index.html

Look through the last few months and tried to figure out in what order each of the DVDs would fall into. 6-8 may be a little off in order, but they do belong in the list.

1. LotR: RotK (a very big #1, number 2 not even close)
2. Lion King 1 1/2 (was #1, until the 1st day of LotR: RotK)
3. Matrix Revolution
4. Bother Bear
5. Kill Bill Vol 1
6. Spy Kids 3
7. Open Range
8. Cheaper by the Dozen
9. Last Samurai
10. Cat in the hat

I have seen all 10 but Kill Bill Vol 1. I wish I had never taken my kids to see The Cat in the Hat. I will not even rent that DVD, one of the worse movies I have every wasted my money on.

Anyway, thought you all might like to see this.

Quake1028 06-25-04 08:12 PM

Out of those, I bought 5.

RyoHazuki 06-25-04 08:13 PM

I can't wait to see the numbers for Star Wars.

I do not think SW will be number 1, I see it somewhere in the top 5 at the end of 2004.

Iron_Giant 06-25-04 08:19 PM

I have bought 6 out of the top 10. Have watched them all several times each.

Simpson Purist 06-25-04 08:25 PM

At the way it's selling, I bet Chappelle's Show will creep onto the top 25 before the year's out.

g 06-25-04 08:39 PM

I havent bought any of these. I'm waiting for better versions of kill bill, matrix, lord of rings rotk

Sessa17 06-25-04 08:44 PM

Boy, it must say a lot about my taste (or rather what I think of current mainstream cinema) that I only own (or would every own) 2 of the top 10. (actually 1 sincie my KB is the uncut LE Box set).

jkester 06-25-04 08:45 PM

I bought 1 of those. Kill Bill Vol 1 (Japanese Box Edition)

TomOpus 06-25-04 08:50 PM

I'm surprised how high up Brother Bear is.

Daytripper 06-25-04 08:55 PM

Does anyone know where you can find the top selling TV on DVDs? I read somewhere "Family Guy" was somewhere near the top.

MrX 06-25-04 10:04 PM

I have four of them

DeanoBKN 06-25-04 10:10 PM

I own 4 of the top 10.

I love seeing Open Range at #7.

Rammsteinfan 06-25-04 10:12 PM

only ROTK for me.

Sunday Morning 06-25-04 10:45 PM

I have 0.
I'll buy kill bill when it's released with v.2 as a set.

Is there any room left in the rock you are living under?

jigga6286 06-25-04 11:34 PM

0 for me

emhello 06-25-04 11:55 PM

Star Wars will be #1 easily give me a break.

Goat3001 06-25-04 11:59 PM

I only own two of the top 10. ROTk and the matrix. I'm waiting for an SE or Box Set of Kill Bill and I have absolutly no desire to buy the other stuff.

TheV 06-26-04 12:06 AM

Funny how unexciting that list is.

Decker 06-26-04 12:21 AM

I have four.
Seeing #1 made me wonder: I don't know how many are like me, addicted to DVDs and love LOTR, but passing on the bare-bones ROTK disc in favor of the EE later. If that wasn't coming out, I bet the sales numbers would be a lot higher. Maybe I'm overestimating that demand, though. How did the other EE's sell?

tofu 06-26-04 12:22 AM

I only have two of those.

Dabaomb 06-26-04 12:22 AM

I own 7
1. LotR: RotK (a very big #1, number 2 not even close)
2. Lion King 1 1/2 (was #1, until the 1st day of LotR: RotK)
3. Matrix Revolution
4. Bother Bear
5. Kill Bill Vol 1
7. Open Range
9. Last Samurai

The thing that'll hold Star Wars back is the fact that it's a box set. Regardless, I think it'll finish #2 behind LOTR: ROTK.

fitprod 06-26-04 12:24 AM

OK, for those of you stating the impossible, and you know who you are... STAR WARS WILL NOT FINISH #1 FOR THE YEAR! Here are the reasons why...

1. Shrek 2
2. Spider-man 2
3. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
4. Harry Potter 3
5. King Arthur (No matter how bad it is...)
6. I Robot (See 5)
7. The Day After Tomorrow (2 X Reason 4)
8. The age of the films
9. The price point
10. The long wait many have endured.

You forgot the standard industry response - bootlegs.
