For you to come in and try and threadcrap me for posting an "overused cliche" is just pathetic. Yes, I've been here a long time- long enough to realize that jokes are told, phrases and sayings are reused and, just recently, that there are some really unpleasant members in here. Your posting was insightful, concise and witty....
FOR!ME!TO!POOP!ON!
And should you not know what that's from, it's Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. It is his catchphrase. He uses it a lot. I think he's funny. I use his catchphrase a lot.
And you better hurry- someone in another post just made a reference to all your bases are belong to us. Get on over there and get your threadcrap on!
I agree with pro-B. I would also assert, warcp, that your original post was threadcrap (both figuratively & *literally*! And don't blame it on the dog ... ).

The original poster asked whether he should buy a used copy at a suspiciously low price (which he might be able to then sell at a profit). He didn't ask for a debate on the film's artistic merits. Every time the subject of Salò comes up, it elicits a sort of Pavlovian response in hordes of people who have no interest in Pasolini or European art film (and who know the film only by its reputation) to chime in with a lot of nonsense & "poop jokes". I say, give it a rest, and stick to the topic at hand.

I agree with previous posters: if it's unlikely to be the legit CC edition and you mainly want it as an investment, I'd pass on it.

Exactly. If you have no respect for the film or source material why bother coming into a thread about it.

I will second some of the other posters, it isn't worth picking this one up. If you were interested in the film there are other better releases out there for it. And if this title is the bootleg, it is not a good investment at all.

So it goes... (shrugs shoulders, noting that over half of the posts in this thread are poop jokes and that the question from the poster is indeed addressed even though there are joke posts interspersed).

What I don't understand is, why pick on warcp for his comment, when there are other equally inane comments interspersed throughout this thread?

What I also fail to understand is, if you think someone has posted something eggregiously stupid or annoying or cliched or whatever, why do you feel the need to "call them out on it"? Why waste your time pointing out how stupid a comment was? Why not just ignore it? Are you really so bothered by their comment that you feel the need to publically berate them?

Having said that, as concerns the original topic, if you have the slightest reason to doubt its authenticity, then walk away. If you're just interested in seeing the movie, regardless of the collectibility of the item, I'm sure you can dig up a VHS* copy somewhere.

*Just waiting for someone to berate me about mentioning "VHS" on a DVD forum.

How dare you sir, taking a completely serious thread about a movie with feces in it and making a mockery of it. For shame.

Yes, but that's the Region 2 PAL release from the BFI. It features a higher quality transfer, but has no "investment value" ...

Does the poop look better in this version or the Criterion version? I want the best poop I can get, price be damned!

OP.. don't buy a bootleg unless you really want to pay $40 just to see it.

To all spoilers.. for god sakes.. put some **spoiler** tags in. There are some of us who have never seen the movie and saying people eat poop in Salo just spoiled it a bit.

Now that it's spoiled (I'm referring to the movie not the poop although it's a possibility they ate spoiled poop in the film I don't know), may I say:

"They eat poop in the movie?! That's bullshit! Can't say much more.. I gotta go poop now before lunch."

**Spoiler** Stiffler eating poop in American Wedding.. now that's worth something!
