Superbit... I've owned both, the Superbit has a better presentation.

Not sure I understand your subject header though, they're both (Superbit and regular) anamorphic widescreen releases.

If by "widescreen" you remember the regular release, go with the Superbit. The picture isn't improved much but the film already had a pretty nice transfer; the dts sound is better than the regular dolby - Nyman never sounded so good.

Gattaca is a movie that i would love to see get special treatment. Since these disc have no special features it could happen. At the same time the picture and sound are good on both disc, and I can't imagine this is still a hot seller all these years later.

deleted scenes, making of docs, effects docs and commentaries would be great. Probably won't get ethan and uma in the same room to record it, but hey we can take one or the other i suppose.

The original release of Gattaca has no special features LISTED on the cover - but there ARE some. There are a few deleted scenes, at the very least - can't remember what else. Anyone have a copy handy? Mine's at home, I'm not.

There's a short Behind-The-Scenes featurette directly after the trailer, I believe. It's just promotional type stuff.

Pretty amazing that they could have all that extra stuff on there, and not list it. I didn't buy the disc for a long time, thinking it was barebones. Boy was I happily surprised when I did buy it!

So, apparently, the Superbit is better, but is it "twice the price" better?

FWIW, it was taken off avsforum's "reference" list for excessive edge enhancement. (contrary to the review here: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=3066)

Thanks.

Just exactly what is the 'Documentary'? Is it an actual doc or just a useless EPK?

About contradictions in picture quality, it reached a zenith for me with the 2 Two Towers (theatrical version DVDs) reviews from this site. Basically one says the edge enhancement is annoyingly present and the other says there's no edge enhancement whatsoever... Unless all the reviews on all sites are outstanding or putrid, I usually wait to see the picture quality for myself.

Depends... What kind of gear are you using? The Superbit looks better on my 16X9 via prog scan, component, calibrated, etc... On a normal 4X3 tube, there may not be enough of a difference to justify the extra cost (specially if the extras appeal to you). The DTS track is also better on the Superbit, but not night and day better. Edge enhancement, IIRC correctly, yes there is a little... Hardly "excessive" IMHO...

I guess it really boils down to how much you like the film, your love for extras and the type of gear you're using when justifying the additional cost.

I'm runnin' a 16x9, too. Guess I'll keep the Superbit on my wishlist. Thanks.
